Best of 2008 Game of the Year

i am a person who played all mgses from nes to ps3 and i said that so u know this saying is from a person from inside not outside, but my openion is : IF YOU WANT A FILM, A GOOD STORY GO SEE FILMS and go to MOVIES, not a GAME!!, i mean it`s more like a movie than a game, and my own openion is that a game is and must be a game, and of course a movie has to be movie, the`re places have replaced on this one !!!

i thought that the best game i ever played is Fallout 3 , really i can`t stop playing this game , also the second best game i ever played is GTA IV ,the story is fantastic and the gameplay also sooo good . I agree with them that the best game in 2008 (FOR PS3 only) is MGS4 but for PC i see that Fallout 3 is the best .

I thought the Game Of The Year award could only be awarded to multi-platform games? In my opinion, Gamespot is just a bunch of PS3 fanboys, I hardly play Xbox and I think GoW2 should be up there (If it was up there sorry for looking like a jackass :P) I was surprised Fallout 3 or GTA IV didnt get it, Especially since GTA IV got 10/10 and its on Xbox/PS3/PC.. Gamespot you disapointed me once again!

@ ztrain : Sorry man but not every1 has 3k+- $ to make a pc that plays everything on the best resolution...so if u only need your pc for gaming why not buy a console dude

I liked all of those games. I had a feeling that MGS4 would win though. But I just can't stop playing fallout 3.

MGS4 is an awesome game.

Maybe it is the best. Sounds like it. But PS3 isn't the best. That's my problem. I'm not going to by a s**tty console when I have a nice PC just for one game.

You can take every game released in the post-PS2 era, combine them, and stack them up against MGS4, and MGS4 would STILL be the best experience. I can't even tell you how hard I bawled during the microwave sequence, or how many shivers I got during the Shadow Moses revisit, or how epic the showdown with Ocelot felt. So many amazing moments... And that's before you even play MGO!

I agree with Evil_penguin21 - its a masterpiece...GOTD - Game of the decade.

I played this game at my friends house and loved it. Best game in series!! Best PS3 game!! This is like not the game of the year, but like the game of the decade, the century!

i dont even care about the gameplay ... it ADDS onto it but the story .. oh my god even better... although the story ends up with all into ONE thing... it's still pretty smart they can even tie it all together... its great

People can say what they want..that this game is only a movie, if that's how they want to play their games then who am I to tell them to not play a game such as Splinter Cell or Halo, but let me just add, for MGS fans or people with patience who respect both gameplay, graphics, audio, movies, will most likely find that MGS4 is "one of" the best games ever made.

to simply put it. the medal gear solid series is the soap operas of gaming in terms of storytelling. Hideo Kojima did an amazing job from start to finish since the first MGS because he and his writing staff is the only video game company to ever truly developed it's characters and there history and tie it up in one single game..which makes MGS all the more compelling in every way possible when looking back. kojima has captured the essence of what makes GOTY. you have awesome graphics. fantastic gameplay. riveting s/l packed with lots of action. what more can you ask for? congrats MGS 4 on a well deserved win.

Waaaaay to much FMV (hence the Blu Ray) for me, gimme Splinter Cell series any day.

MGS4 is the best game of the year hands down. Fallout 3 (it's only competition in my book) has way too many bugs/glitches. That's not to say that I don't love Fallout 3, but MGS4 is pretty much a masterpiece. I thought The World Ends with You was also fantastic, but it's hard to give a handheld game the game of the year.

There is no way that any game could be considered the game of the year except MGS4. I have it and it was worth every single penny i spent

Fallout 3 FTW...deep story, deep graphics, deep gameplay...end of story. Plus it runs on more than the damn PS3.

i've been a fan of the mgs series since mgs 1 and this was the reason that made me buy a next gen console in the first place (blu ray was the other). I thought i didn't need a new console , but then this game was announced and i thought "dammit, i'll have to cash out lots of money just to play this", and let me tell you, it was money well spent. MGS 4 is a superb game , sure it is uneven and cheesy at times, but it kicks every other games butts. I love the audio flashbacks in shadow moses. Brought up some old memories. GOTY totally deserved

What people are also not thinking about when it comes to metal gear. It is not only a good game. It is the end of a canon storyline that lasted over 20 years. NO other game can say they do that. To have one storyline fly past two decades, that is also what makes metal gear solid 4 game of the year. It closes the longest storyline.

i have a 360. i borrowed a ps3 to play mgs4 and it is AMAZING!. since i finished it i have been wanting to trade my 360 for a ps3 lol. couple of weeks and it will be mine all mine :p

No surprise there. I would give both the Gears of War games to be PS3 exclusive to get MGS4 to be shared with 360. I say game of the year just by looking at it, though I'm surprised that Dead Space wasn't among the nominees. Also, please tell me that the whole "SNAAAAAAAAAAKE" thing doesn't happen each and every time you die.

I don't see the argument for Fallout 3, I haven't even played this game yet and I can see why it got goty. I have a ps2, and I've played all the other MGS, just watching this makes me want to buy a ps3 to play this game alone. It's just too bad this didn't release on 360 as well or I would have been all over it at a midnight release.

this game ftw. i beat it 5 times and never got board. then i tried online and played a total of 157 hours. this game doesn't deserve game of the year, it deserves game of the decade.

i agree with sa-ld, that part where Snake was in the microwave tunnel was epic, with the other half of the battle occuring, and the music and when Snake was just suffering down there. EPIC!

The only reason I would not want to play this game is because I haven't played the previous ones.

i am not surprised that this game one but i did want fallout3 to win!
