To kiko_lazevski: MGS is not a shooting game. It's more of a stealth + shooting combined. I don't blame you since you said u have never played this game and i assume you never played the first 3 games as well. If i am not wrong, MGS did went to the PC before. But i think that was either MGS1 or MGS2.

I love looking through all of the positive comments with thumbs-down ratings. Too bad people are that one sided. This game was/is amazing, and is my favorite game of the year...although, I've been playing Saints Row on the Xbox and it makes me laugh my ass off.

I just cant understand why Metal Gear Solid 4 is only for ps3. All shooting games must be for pc too, the pc its just made for shooters and I don't believe the Sony stories cause its just jealousy. You know what im an xbox 360 fan and owner and im not gonna say that i dont like MGS4 seriously i havent played it. I know that some of the games on that list are my favourites but im not prepared to say that they're better than a game i havent played. i like games in particular and sony fans it doesnt matter how much better you think this game is you cant argue a point with someone who cant see past the systems. Even if i think something else should have won i just take it as a sign that MGS is a game i should play cuz obviously lots of people think its good. And 360 fans its ok they arent saying MGS is the only game they're saying THEY THINK its the best of this year sony fans its a solid win for playstation im sticking with 360 :) but i congratulate playstation for the win ^__^ thnx for your time

ok so people complaint and say that sony pays gamespot and that gamespot is kissing sony's @ss well i say OPEN YOUR FREAKING EYES, gamespot is all about micrososft and xboxfanboys and gamespot gives best scores to xbox and says that xbox games are better except for THIS ONE TIME. stop hating this is the best game EVER dont lie you know this game is awesome anf for some (or most) PLAY THE GAME before you JUDGE and talk &%&$@.

its not about this being the last snake episode. Its about being a hell of a game. Someone said it was too easy and i say that depends in what difficulty you're playing and in wich way u wanna play it. Try and get the big boss emblem, or even play the game in extreme boss (or whatever its called). Its really tough. The thing about this game is that it exceeds everything in the game industry, this is something that should be appreciated by anyone, not only by gamers. About GTA 4, that is a great game, but it needs a LOT of work. Ive always felt that gta series are incredible in the free roaming stuff, but when it comes to the missions its just too repetitive and the gameplay too stiff. I know a lot of fans are going to hate me for saying that about gta 4 , but its true. I know both games are very different , but MGS4 is something else. It surpass the stereotype that games are not serious. This is the GOTY!and as samurichmaploo said , no game has ever influenced me like the mgs series. dats tru love!

It's very true. MGS 4 was awesome. It put you literally in a life or death situation ever more so that's EVER been done in a game before. Obviously there's going to be some criticism. I just wanna say this: Grand Theft Auto was a great game. It was awesome in EVERY SINGLE WAY. BUT so was MGS 4. MGS 4 was so good because everybody wanted to know... just what the heck was going on!! Plus, this may very well be the very last MGS game that has to do with Snake up to this point. Or so we are told. Some more may come out BUT either way this had so much hype and great moments that if you enjoyed the MGS stroyline JUST a little, you would agree that at the end tears may very well be running down your cheek. Yes, I know that GTA IV was awesome. Super sweet. All those words we make up to describe it, but when you compare THAT back to your old days of gameing back on the PS1, it doesn't come nearly as close. Rest assured, there will be a GUARANTEED GTA V, but there is no guarantee that we will see another MGS on the PS3. Whichever game you enjoy more, both are well worth playing. But NO OTHER GAME has influenced me more than MGS IV (and the Final Fantasy series) and maybe no other game will.

Try playing MGS4 has a Sneaking mission instead of a shooter and you will see more gameplay then the so called cutscenes, and for the ones o didnt understand the egg's cutscene try thinking it is very good for your brain

MGS4 proved me wrong, I started off thinking of it as a movie and too little gameplay....just to let everyone who thinks the same way...PLAY IT!!! This game sets the standard for many games in the near future!!

Im a big fanboy of xbox360 but Msg4 is what a video game should be like and it will prob be the best game for at least 5 years still i like my xbox over my ps3! god... i wish kojima would have played a role in making halo ...

With that said, xlove, you must have played the NES titles that came out on Subsistance? I've been playing video games for a long time and can appreciate everything MGS4 has to offer. It's not even about how long I've been playing games you can just go back to playing only PS2 games for a month, pop in MGS4 and **** your pants.

MGS4 looks incredible, I'm sure the award was well-deserved, but I found myself questioning why several of these titles ever made this list. NHL 09? Sure it might be a good, even a great sports game (I wouldn't know), but no sports game, no matter how good, should be a contender for game of the year. I found myself scratching my head when I saw that Resistance 2 made the list, while Gears of War 2 apparently "didn't pass muster" (both got the exact same score from gamespot). Dead Space was also conspicuously absent--arguably one of the best titles of the year--another huge oversight.

theres no halflife 2 episode 3, its halflife 3 alredy. Im ignoring this game till this day, yet without knowing its the best game ever, i even bought 2 crapy game lately(soldier of fortune payback s*cks!!!, quake wars enemy territory b*llsh*t!!) i should buy this one soon

twilight its not my problem you can`t believe but i`m not a liar, i remember getting up from bed in middle of the night for downloading the new trailer that was supposed to come out for mgs3, i never forget buying PS2 just because of mgs2, i never forget when i saw snake somiking under the rain on the george-washington bridge and jumping down i was crieddd !!!... and finally i never forget that i`ve so many played mgs1 that i have memorized almost all of dialogs in cutscenes!, in fact i was and i AM a great fan of mgs series that just didn`t catch what he has expected for this one, i don`t like the camera and just playing with right thumbstick to change the view(i think the classic above view camera was better), and i don`t like those beauty and the beast creeps and the way that snake has gotten aged and simply i agree with deathman023, just the story and cutscenes are great and the thing is not every one of them, some are just time wasting to watch and boring and so on...

Half-Life 2 Episode 3 will be the end of the best game series ever.

No, no no no no, terrible choice, a year of stellar games and you choose the game that can't decide on what it wants to be/do, while at the same time tying up every single loose end like someone with OCD (sorry Yahtzee for stealing yo line) Fallout 3 will be remembered long after MGSIV is forgotten, ditto for Reistance 2, CoD4/5, GTAIV, Saints Row 2 ad nasum

Whoa sorry for the double post. But some of the nominations were plain bad. Left 4 Dead 8.5 and Dead Space 9.0 and lolz Left 4 Dead gets the entry. Love both games....but just wanted to point out how stupid gamespot is.

Gamespot reviews of MGS4 obviously, as the game has gone on for years, so has these "biased" reviews. Fallout 3 was the game of the year. I am not a professional as these so called "critics". But to say it was the best combination of cut scenes and gameplay or it is the only memorable game that will really impact you was just ludicrous and self-serving. Of course the game is awesome, but to feature the huge real-estate the hud commands or split screens is not a feature. Also stating that story line is the best one over Fallout is a real stretch. In this light I am glad the series is over. Maybe finally we can call it Gamespot.com and not MGS4.com.

Wow. Serioulsy, I don't understand what the FUK is so amazing about Mgs 4!! I bought it after playing MGS 3 and reading all the hype about MGS 4. MGS 3 had a pretty amazing story I thought, and if MGS 4 was better in every way I was down. What I got was an incredibly melodramatic and flat out boring collection of cut scenes. There are some nice actiony cutscenes, but most of the time you are sitting there thinking WTF. Such as after the many long drawn out "egg cooking" scenes at the start of mission briefings. SERIOUSLY WTF?! Anyways the BOSS Battles are amazing?! Yes, they look nice. But they all end up boiling down to point and shoot, and I think that's the biggest problem with this game. It's so damn EASY! I mean I don't know what you guys are smoking, but obviously EVERYONE is getting some. GAME OF THE YEAR?! I thought we had a word to describe 90 minute cutscenes. I don't think it was awsome.
