Best of 2008 Game of the Year

MGS4 deserved it.

I've played Fallout, I've played L4D, and I've played MGS4. Picking this game is not a disrespect to any of those other games its just...better. In every way. Years of gaming and I've never played anything like this. Those of you who don't own a PS3(like me) find a friend who does and exploit them just so you can play this game all the way through. It transcends all.

This award is well deserved. While there were many great games in 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the greatest games ever.

For PS3 gamers only. The rest of us want another GOTY!!!

MGS4 is a really good game, but I give it an 8.8., because u have to sign up for a seperate online account, u can't replay missions of your choosing, and u don't have trophies. But DON'T get me wrong. I think it would deserve game of the year, if it didn't have the flaws. Above all of that, it's a really good game. But what should be game of the year is resistance2. I would say this game is a 10 and game of the year, if they release an update, fixing those flaws. It would be the best game eva. literly flawless

I m not sure that 2008 is a good gaming year... I think that 2007 was far better than 2008, especially that there weren't any good strategy games in 2008. Also, some games were awaited for so long & were never released like StarCraft II & Diablo III. I think what i m talking about was so obvious in the video, i.e. if anybody counts the contenders for the game of the year, he ll find that most of them are FIRST PERSON SHOOTERs & RPGs except for NHL2009 which isn't popular in a lot of countries... Hopefully, 2009 will be a better gaming year where strategy lovers are waiting Warhammer II & Starcraft II (we all hope that there will be no further delays) while RPG lovers are waiting for the wonderful evergreen Diablo III, may be also DemiGod... & May be a better release for Need For Speed which is going downhill since carbon...

Fallout 3 should of won. MGS 4 is a polished turd enemy in this have this feeling they wont really hurt u, even when u are discover they should blast the hell out of u not wait 5 secs or so, just feels like there is a blank in the gameplay. Also with the cinematics i swear i seen them somewhere before in some movie.

i definatly dont think left 4 dead should have got this, its a great game but its too empty. fallout 3 is one of the best games i have ever played but i havnt tried mgs4 (mainly due to a lack of ps3 and the fact i dont really want one)... it does look awesome though

Se que varios tendran sus favoritos!! uno puden decir que Fallout, otros diran Grand Thef Auto 4, etc. pero es justo poner se a pensar que el juego del año no es aquel que mejores graficas tenga, en el que mas destrozos hagas. Si no es quel juego que sea unico en su clase o genero! creo que varias cosas de los demas juegos ya se a visto en otros juegos!! como GTA 4, que su predecesor tiene muchos aspectos de este! pero MGS 4 es uno en un millon y la historia es imponente! es como comparar DRAGON BALL Z con la Historia de Death Note! hehehe!! hablamos de historias de calidad muy bien elaboradas!!! y con un toque unico!!

Nhl 09 should have won!

IMO MGS4 was the best game this year and I'm glad it got the award. On the other hand there were many great games this year and I was happy to see IGN give the award to Fallout 3. It's nice that many of the games this year are getting some recognition.

Wow gamespot is really starting to surprise me. They did everything short of bowing down and worshiping this game. "when all's said and done you're going to look back at other games and not even remember anything specific that happened in that game." Sorry that's just wrong to screw every other game that came out in 08. My greatest moment in 2008 is when I stepped out of vault 101 and how far I could see in the distance. Fallout 3 is about complete immersion from start to finish and IGN got that. And I'll never forget that game.

Should i juz give this 2 editor a slap in the face???!!!! How could them compare MGS wif fallout, burnout, resistance and braid?? Do they know what is the different between a 3rd person shooter, first person shooter and a racing game??? MGS is a stealth and 3rd person shooter game. Fallout 3 and Resistance 2 is a first person shooter game. Burnout is a racing game and Braid is more like a puzzle solving game... And those 2 idiot wan to compare MGS with this 4 different types of game.....Come one those 4 different types of gameplay!!!! Be fair a bit or next time use your head before you start giving comment to the games!!!!!

I agree with what superflysmooth is saying. It is the best game of the year by a genre but not of all the games. They should have picked it to be the best action/ shooting game but not of every thing.

WAIT, HOLD UP, THAT'S NOT FAIR. Yes, MSG4 is awesome don't get me wrong but they're comparing all the genres? They should only compare genre. MSG4 is not a first person shooter so how is that compared to Fallout 3 or Braid? Come on! Let's be fair please? Best game of the year for certain genres but not best game of the year among all the games!

YES Greatest game ever! This game is one of the best games ever to come out. And for this to be the last in the series was quite sad, but yet fun. Bringing a little new, and a little old in game play, and bringing an awesome end for an epic story, MGS4 definitely deserved the award game of the year. Although there were other great games like Fallout 3, or even Gears of war 2, this was just a better quality game that brought much more than a game, but also a story you will never forget.

I couldn't get through MGS4. The story was ridiculous. I don't know how anyone can say otherwise: it was a typical video game story with nothing original to say, and as they said in the video it was the same damn plot as every other MGS game. What the hell? And it says a lot about Gamespot's reviewers that they thought the scene with Snake crawling was great: repeatedly pressing a button? What the hell kind of gameplay is that? It's the opposite of what a good game should be. The cut scenes were cheesy, the dialogue stilted and ludicrous... oy. MGS4 was crap. Not that Fallout 3 had a great story or anything, because it didn't, but I got a lot more enjoyment out of it than the tedious MGS4.

A well deserved win in my opinion, and btw i own a ps3 and think its great, but i am not the kind of guy that believes that the xbox is s**t (censorship sucks), the xbox has great exclusives Halo 3, Gears 2, L4D, and more, and i am sure that many ps3 fanboys are jealous. so for all the ps3 fanboys who disagree F-U. Sorry!

fallout 3 is great but in the end, its more of a 1 millions piece jigsaw puzzle to play. Rather than an action packed intense gamplay...game! MGS 4 has an amazing story, the greatest graphics, and you get sucked into it. Its a Movie of a game.
