Best New TV And Movies On Amazon Prime Video In December 2018

From Amazon Prime original series like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 to excellent films like Hereditary and Boogie Nights, here are our top picks for the best new Amazon Prime Video movies and TV shows to watch in December!

We're now more than halfway through the month, which means Christmas is just around the corner. Unfortunately, Amazon Prime Video isn't adding any noteworthy holiday movies or TV series this month, but that doesn't mean you won't find anything good. Plenty of quality series are returning for a second season on the streaming platform, and a host of excellent films--both classic and new--are being added as well. In the video above, Emily Conti outlines the best movies and TV series coming to Amazon Prime Video this December.

Fans of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and 4 Blocks rejoice! Both series are returning for a second season. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 released on Amazon Prime Video on December 5, while 4 Blocks Season 2 hit on December 15.

First premiering in March 2017, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a comedy drama about Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a woman who--after her husband leaves her--discovers she has a talent for stand-up comedy. Despite being fictional, the series draws inspiration from the lives of real female stand-up comedians from the 1950s, presenting the prejudices that women had to go through while also including plenty of laughs. 4 Blocks is a German drama about a Berlin crime family. The show is a really good watch, and absolutely one you want to make time for if you're a fan of high-stakes drama and tense action. Season 1 for both shows are already on Amazon Prime Video if you need to catch up.

If you're looking forward to some movies instead, there are plenty to choose from. Some notable classics arrived on Amazon Prime Video on December 1, including Boogie Nights, The Dark Crystal, and A Fish Called Wanda. In terms of new movies, the standout is Hereditary. It's a shame the movie won't be added to the service until December 27, as it's one of our favorite films of 2018. The movie is well-written and one of the more terrifying thrillers from this year. If you missed seeing it in theaters, you'll want to take advantage of watching it on Amazon this December.
