God of War has received quite the positive critical reception, with GameSpot's own review praising it for its impeccable presentation and excellent father-son dynamic--not to mention the brutal, yet satisfying combat. And with all the glowing reviews, Xbox head Phil Spencer tweeted congratulations to developer Sony Santa Monica and Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida.
God of War is certainly one of the most anticipated games of the year, so of course it would headline the latest episode of GameSpot Daily. If Saturday is for the boys, then Friday is for insightful and thought-provoking discussion of all the latest video game news in 30 minutes or less.
Every Fortnite player on any platform can now claim some free items for a limited time. Because of server issues, Epic Games is offering Battle Royale players a Back Bling and Save The World players a Troll Stash Llama. And that's not all: a pack of Battle Stars is on its way to every Battle Royale player, while some seasonal gold will make its way to everyone in Save The World. That'll be distributed sometime next week.
Speaking of free stuff, There are a bunch of games with free weekends right now, which means you'll be able to play them without paying anything until April 15. Some of these include Skyrim, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and Injustice 2. We've got the full list and all of the special discounts in the episode.
In other news, Hellblade won five awards at the BAFTAs last night, dominating the show. Unfortunately for developer Ninja Theory, it did not take the overall Best Game award. The awards it did win, however, include Best Performer, Audio Achievement, and Game Beyond Entertainment. We run down the rest of the awards in the video above.
Speaking of hitting the jackpot, a game collector discovered some really old drugs in two NES carts. The collector bought the games from a flea market, wondering why they weighed so much. Upon investigating, he found the drugs, called the cops, and learned that they were, in fact, very old drugs. The collector later learned that $5,000 in bills were discovered in a game back in 2012, which leads us to think there may have been some kinda Nintendo-inspired drug smuggling ring.
And now for something completely different. We've got some My Hero Academia news, the first of which is the first trailer for the upcoming game My Hero Academia: One's Justice. We analyze the trailer, talk about its characters, and discuss some of the game's systems. Additionally, the superhero anime had a bit of a crossover with Avengers: Infinity War. Toho Animation posted a remake of the Marvel movie's trailer, except with characters from My Hero Academia.
And that's what you'll find in this episode, but be sure to tune in every day of the week at 11 AM PST/2 PM EST/7PM BST/4 AM AEST for another episode of GameSpot Daily. We cover the most exciting gaming news in 30 minutes or less or we ruin our chances at a nice, congratulatory tweet from Phil Spencer.
