A great way to end one of the best gaming trilogies of all time.
That's not to say there aren't some downsides here. The story just isn't as good as it was in previous games. Characters appear in the game & then go away with no explanation as to what happened to them. There are plot holes everywhere. Drake's movements have become a bit more sluggish, resulting in some frustrating deaths. The new melee system is boring and a blatant rip-off attempt from the Batman Arkham games. Etc. Etc.
But, what UC3 retains from it's predecessors is the fact that it's fun and damn great to look at. If you have played the previous games in the series, you will feel.......mostly.....at home here. As I stated in the above paragraph, there are a few changes, but nothing that changed the game dramatically. This is still the wisecracking Nathan Drake shooting and jumping himself out of a bunch of loud action set-pieces. There is still Sully providing the perfect side-kick. And yes, Elena (one of my favorite video game women) is back, providing a romantic angle to the game & giving more depth to Drake's character.
If there is one thing that I am pretty sure everyone can agree on, is that UC3 looks absolutely amazing. I thought it was going to be almost impossible to top UC2, but Naughty Dog has proved me wrong once again. The characters, environments, & summer blockbuster type action moments all jump off the screen at you. Of course, the great voice cast is back & they deliver an outstanding performance, as usual. A special shout-out to Rosalind Ayres, who voices the main villain, Marlowe. If you ever wondered what a wicked & evil Hellen Mirren would be like, well here is your answer.
While some people were disappointed with UC3, I was very happy with the game. I never expected them to top the great UC2. I was just hoping Naughty Dog would deliver another great game in a series that I enjoy quite a bit. The Uncharted series is the best action/adventure gaming series going today. And with the next-generation of consoles coming, I am eagerly awaiting what Naughty Dog has in store for Nathan Drake & the rest of the cast & characters of Uncharted.
