Best Spiderman game yet and maybe the best superhero game too...

Wow, just wow. I JUST bought this game and have only been playing it for about an hour and a half but so far I’m very impressed. At first glance this is basically a cooler looking version of Spiderman 2; however once you get into it you really start to get the feel for it and turnes out its much more then Spidey2. Here is a quick break down. Graphics: What can I say, the graphics are amazing. The cell graphics with the inking effects are quite stunning to look at, especially on Venom but more about him later. The cityscape, though at distance appear to be a little plain because of the cell shading are actually quite vibrant and detailed at closer inspection. The cinema and cut scenes are amazingly done up with a comic book feel that is very true to Spidey comic fans. This game is a gem for cell shading fans (like myself) Gameplay: The gameplay in Ultimate Spiderman is quite the same as Spidey2 but also slightly different. The fighting mechanics have been simplified for a more authentic Spiderman feel. Rather then using all these weird web tricks (i.e. Spiderman web cocoons and web fists?) spidey is more inclined to be himself and jump around extremely fast and smack some people out, with the occasional hanging a baddy off a light post to top it off. The web mechanics have been dulled down too for the web swinging, which is really only a slight disappointment. It is more fun in Spiderman 2 to swing around (but only slightly) so it’s not that big a deal. Now onto Venom; Venom is amazing, there I said it. the first time you play as him you get the feeling that pretty much nothing can stop you. The venom mechanics are a little different then Spidey’s but that’s good cause it means you can change it up for a while if you feel like it (more replay value anyone?) the graphics on Venom are awesome, just go buy the game and see it for yourself. Picking up cars, eating people, using tentacles. Venom rules and I personally can’t wait to beat the game so I can rampage around NYC and eat innocent bystanders. Sound: The sound in the game is pretty good, the voice acting is good and the sound effects are exactly what you’d expect from a Spiderman game. Spidey still has his trademark insults and venom his strange drooling/ rawwwrr sounds as well. The environment sounds better too as the NPC’s have more to say. The cars and ambient city noises are quite good too. In closing, if you liked Spiderman 2 you’ll love this game. If you love Spiderman in general you’ll love this game. Or even if you just like large free roaming games you’ll love this game. I give this one a 9.2 / 10. Amazing!
