Ultimate Ghosts ' N Goblins is a journey filled with action, adventure and mayhem that is relentless in its pursuit to provide top notch challenge. In his newest adventure, Arthur sets out to rescue his princess from the hands of the devil who has kidnaped her. Arthur must proceed through six levels of grueling obstacles which include vile creatures and demons that will stop at nothing to prevent him from reaching her. Capcom has been known to be relentless in providing challenge that is unimaginable even for the expert gamer, and while Ultimate G'nG does have three levels of difficulty it is a challenge even in the novice setting.

In pursuit of his beloved Arthur can arm himself with various suits of armor that are found within the game. Each armor has different degrees of defense and some bestow special abilities such as enabling Arthur to fly. Shields are also found that have diverse characteristics and functions that help Arthur deal with the evil that comes his way. Magic is used in this installment of G'nG and transforms Arthur to a mage-like fighting machine with magical spells varying from fire balls to spells that turn monsters into stone. In addition Arthur has access to some of the most elaborate array of weapons available for a knight in shining armor. His arsenal of weapons includes and are not limited to knives, lances, crossbows, whips, bombs, and scythes that are used to obliterate anything that comes between Arthur and his mission.

As Arthur progresses through the levels, he is confronted with obstacles that force him to be nimble and react with precision and diligence as one mistake and it is goodnight for our hero. This is where the game is flawed, in the midst of chaos and barrage of attacks that are directed at Arthur he has no margin for error. Arthur's jumps are limited, in that his timing is crucial least he lands on an enemy or into the endless pits that are ubiquitous throughout the game. As challenging as it is to time your jumps just right to get to where you want to go, it can be frustrating as you will die several times in the attempt to clear the stage. However, despite this challenge you learn to time your jumps and eventually master this technique as you play deeper into the game. Another downfall of this game is that Arthur can only shoot up, down and side to side and has no other versatility. He is limited to jumping, double jumping, flying and shooting, and therein lies the challenge. This after all is G'nG and what is G'nG without the trademark insane difficulty factor that is known for this game. It is a prerequisite that you are patient and enduring as this game is not for the casual gamer, least you lose your cool and toss the PSP to certain doom.

G'nG is by far one of the most aesthetic looking games on a hand held. Its landscape and backdrops are not only appealing to the eye, but captures the theme of each level Arthur undertakes in his journey to rescue his princess. Arthur travels through forests, caves, lava fields, and chasms filled with oozing slime, unspeakable creatures, and mysterious fogs that form into ghoulish expressions. Each of these levels is crafted in such intrinsic detail that it leaves the player in wonderment at the realism and the artistic finesse of the presented themes. Colour coordination is absolutely gorgeous as the colours of the game bring out the Gothic and eerie undertones of G'nG. The colour draws the player to the vivid world of the game and never leaves them disinterested nor bored.

The music of G'nG is very appropriate as it portrays the mysterious world of demons and goblins and the various manner of beings that serve evil. At times the music does become lost in all the melees of destruction and onslaught of attacks, however it generally captures the mood and feeling of the game. There are moments of nostalgia as the main theme of G'nG is brought back to life with vibrant energy. From the sounds of the weapons working their destruction to the effects of the magic that is being released, the sound effects of G'nG are believable and distinct. What makes this game enjoyable is the combination of music and visuals added to the nonstop action.

Despite the lack of the plot and the level of difficulty that will no doubt deter the casual gamer from enjoying this game, G'nG is a solid game for the PSP and does not fail to deliver excitement and entertainment. Its replay value is high due to the many different items, shields, magic, and weapons that can be added to your arsenal. Added to the fact that it's a gorgeous game to look at aesthetically, G'nG challenges players to think quickly on the fly and to be one step ahead of the game. The added bonus is that this game brings nostalgia to the older gamer and does a great job of bringing that nostalgia home. So if you're looking for a challenge mixed in with some classic action, join Arthur in his quest to save his beloved princess.
