UFC Undisputed 2010 for the PSP... is a GOOD adaptation?

I didn't really expect much of this game. I had played the PS3 version of this game and I liked it. But the PSP version? "It can't be good", I thought to myself. "It can't be nearly as good as the PS3 or Xbox 360 version. It probably just an attempt to cheat people out of a few bucks and it's gonna suck hard because it's an adaptation of a game on a more popular console". But for less than 20 €, I was willing to try. And I'm glad I did.

The game was worth the money. It's actually a good adaptation. I mean, you can easily compare it to the PSP version of WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006, another adaptation that was done extremely well. Sure, the game loses SOMETHING in the adaptation process, but it feels like the makers actually made sure that it came out well (unlike Godfather or Star Wars Battlefront II for the PSP).

If you're familiar with last year's UFC or this year's UFC, you know the drill. You punch, kick and grapple your way to victory. What else can you expect from a wrestling/fighting game? The controls take a little time to get used to, but fortunately there's a tutorial OR if you have ever played a similar game, like the SmackDown vs. Raw series, you catch on easily... a little bit too easily. I'm not quite sure, but the AI isn't quite as good in this version than on the PS3 version. You might have to raise the difficulty a bit to maintain the challenge. I recommend playing against another player if you have the change.

There's different game modes, of course, like Exhibition, Title Mode, Title Defense Mode, Tournament Mode and Ultimate Fights Mode. In Ultimate Fights, you get to re-create (or re-write) some classic UFC matches. There's a little bit of challenge here, but nothing spectacularly frustrating. The final mode of the game is Career Mode, WHAT A SURPRISE! You get to create a fighter, train him and proceed to kick some butt. The Career Mode is nice, it has a good UFC feel to it, but it's not without flaws. The training can be boring at times, but at least it's not as frustrating and boring as in SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008... damn that game. But if you like creating your own fighters, the Career Mode is for you. There's also a Create A Fighter Mode, but the Career let's you customize your very own fighter much, much more. Finally, there's some extra unlockable content but nothing spectacular.

The conclusion? UFC Undisputed 2010 for the PSP is an adaptation made with love and care. It has it's flaws, but so does the other versions of the game. If you like these kinds of games, get it.
