Some Issues, But Surprisingly Enjoyable!

I picked this up for around $12 from Direct2Drive with minimal expectations and I have quite enjoyed this game. The review is accurate about some of the finicky camera issues and frame rate stuff… although my graphic and glitch issues seemed to be a little better than the GS reviewers (latest patch maybe???)

The voice acting is a little hokey but some of it is very funny too… in a dry sort of way. The combat is enjoyable, although playing anything but a warrior type in the single player game seems to put you at a disadvantage. You can't cast spells without equipping a staff and some armors aren't compatible with bows, both these things seem unnecessarily limiting to me.

Despite its obvious flaws I still find the game very engrossing. It looks very nice, not the best, but nice. The environments are interesting and try to be at least somewhat different than the fantasy norm. I like the crafting system, it is enjoyable upgrading and adding magical properties to your equipment. The alchemy function is sort of pointless because all you really need are healing potions… I have found no real need for any other type. You are provided with plenty of ingredients to make all the healing potions you will need though.

The magic system is interesting but I haven't really used it much. I found staying alive in the beginning of the game requires an investment in warrior skills and I simply continued on that path. It is almost as if the developers know that because they offer a service to allow you to reassign skill points later on and adjust the type of character you have made. That seems a bit like a cop-out for designing an unbalanced game early on.

Later on however if you have done a number of the side quests, upgraded your equipment and tried to stay fairly focused with your skills I found the game to be quite easy. If you rush through the main quest it would probably be harder however.

All in all I got my money's worth from this game already and I still have hours and hours of gameplay left. If you enjoy a good RPG and you find this one for a reasonable price I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up.
