As far as the gameplay goes, if you played Twisted Metal Black you should feel right at home. The controls are very fast and responsive and that really comes in handy when your life is almost gone and you have to turn a quick corner to get that health. Driving with the analog nub feels awkward, and after forcing myself to play a few rounds with only the nub, my thumb started to hurt. I would stick with the D-Pad which works just fine. The default controls are O.K... driving with the square button and having the O button as a handbrake can be annoying, and chaning weapons with triangle can get frustrating. But this is no set back since there are a number of different control set ups to choose from. The graphics are excellent. The cars have a good amount of detail and each has its own "feel". The levels are all fairly large, and although they dont have a huge amount of detail, you have to remember that this is a handheld, and for a handheld, its pretty damn good. The levels are all unique and all offer a different mood, exept maybe the two tokyo levels. The mini games are a fun mix if you get tired of the level, and the reward is great. The ending movies for charatcters arent done the way they are in Twisted Metal Black, but the cartoon-ish feel goes well with the game, and the movies are farely long and rewarding and wrap up the story mode very nicely for each character. Online play is probably the greatest aspect of the game. First off, just realizing that you are playing online using a handheld is amazing. The lobby is easy to navigate, and if you have ever created and online account with a PS2 game, this should be very femiliar. Being able to chat is a great feature, and once you learn how to use the keyboard, messages can be written pretty fast, although its a little frustrating to use at first. Gamplay suffers almost no lag, and if it dose, its only for a second. The sound is good, but could have been done better. Although the each car has its own sound, they all still sound pretty much the same, and when in the midst of a battle, with the music going and rockets flyin', you dont really notice the cars sound anyways. The metal riffs are a nice touch, they really add to the game's overall feel and mood, although they get a little repetitive after a while. The sound of shooting missiles is also good, but with little veriety amongst most, none really stand out. The voice acting in the cut scenes and in the ending movies are quite good and dont feel cheesy at all, they are probably the best sounding part of the game. In short, the game is a blast. The final boss is pretty hard to beat even in the normal setting, but it keeps you coming back. It takes a while to beat all the levels in Story mode with one character, and unlocking that characters story is quite rewarding. Each character has his own unique feel, and like in all the other Twisted Metal games, that kept me playing for a long time. And I'm sure I'll be playing this one for a long time as well.
