Very solid Cube shooter; one of the best for the system, even if you haven't played the previous Turoks.

The first time I played this game was just after New Years', and I got rid of it a few chapters in because I kept getting stuck. A few months later the following summer, I bought it back again after doing a trade-in with my local game store. And I realize that I made a mistake getting rid of it in the first place.

It is a great game, and a solid FPS, especially by GameCube standards. The dated graphics are the only real flaw, but everything else is an amazing FPS experience. You gets tons of weapons from the past and present, such as a bow-and-arrow, a pistol, a shotgun, and a club to chop enemies to pieces with. There are more weapons, but I haven't unlocked all of them yet.

For those of you who have played previous Turok games, you may know that they are about Turok, a warrior who fights dinosaurs and goes on these quests. Well, fans probably know that this particular Turok game is about how Turok became who he is, which is how the 'Evolution' phrase ties into the title. The storyline is strong for Turok fans, but for me, I'm caring more about the dang game than the storyline, even though it is interesting.

Aside from the good story and variety of guns, the gore level of the game is extremely high, so this definitely isn't for the kids. There is a setting to turn the graphic violence off, but few gamers will want to miss out on bloody Dino deaths. I know I don't!

It's also cool how instead of getting a sniper rifle, you get a sniper scope for your pistol, which allows you to snipe with your pistol, a feature I have never seen in a FPS to date until playing this. You can also zoom in with your bow to stick arrows in the enemies' heads, which is a one-shot kill for the weaker enemies. You can get Poison Arrows, which poison the target and kill them with one shot (but slowly), and Explosive Arrows, which kill most enemies with one shot, and two shots for the biggest ones.

The game also features a 4-player split screen multiplayer mode; without bots, unfortunately. But, the multiplayer is still fun. There are tons of modes, power-ups, and maps, which make it great for when you gather up a few buddies.

BOTTOM LINE: For those who own a GameCube, and like FPS games, this is definitely a must-play. For Turok fans, it's a must-buy. Even the most casual FPS fan should buy this if they rent it and like it. So, in conclusion, Turok: Evolution is one of the best single-player shooter experiences on the Cube. Lengthy, and challenging, this shouldn't be passed up by shooter fans.
