In my opinion, this 2D side scrolling game is head and shoulders above others in its genre.

It is what it is, a 2D side scroller, but it's so much more. We played this game on a 46" HD screen, and it was amazing. My hat's off to the programmers who actually made on-screen physics believable. Gravity actually works the way it's supposed to, right down to the swirling of the Thief's cape when she turns, swings, or jumps. The background artwork is integrated so well with the playing layer, it sometimes fools you into thinking it's part of the interactive screen.

Co-op play with another like-minded player makes this game even more rewarding. Cooperating to navigate some of the screens will test your mutual communication skills.

I can see that this game is not for everyone. There are some fast battle scenes, but the emphasis is on over coming obstacles in your path. I think it's an over simplification, and misleading, to call these "puzzles". We found that nearly every situation presented several ways to accomplish the task of moving forward. Most puzzles in video games require the placement of multiple object in just the right place, in the right order, and there is only ONE solution. This game tests your creativity in over coming adversity.

Neither I, nor my playing partner enjoy the typical "slash-n-dash" type game play. While this game offered a few adrenaline rushes, and some button-mashing to get through, most battle encounters were tactical. In the problem solving category, there was one boss battle where weapons were ineffective. It required that you find an alternate solution to defeat the enemy.

The other thing that made this game enjoyable was the plethora of 'check points'. Having your progress saved every 2-3 screens eliminated a lot of frustration at having to start a long task over again. Having your characters completely rejuvenated at every checkpoint was a real plus.

The other thing I've never encountered in other games was the saving of your progress during the major Boss Battles. In the Easy mode, your whole party can be wiped out, but when you begin the battle again, the damage to the Boss is retained.
The only frustrating element is that if your co-op characters get too far apart, the lead character is zapped back to the starting point. But once that's discovered, it's easy to avoid. Sometimes the point-of-view changed to make it difficult to control the other co-op character, but that was a minor frustration.

All in all, this was one of the most enjoyable games we've played in the past couple of years.
