Like a river, the game goes nowhere but downhill and ends up rock bottom.

User Rating: 5.5 | Tomb Raider (The Final Hours Edition) PC
I've never played the classic Tomb Raider games and my first impressions of this game were good. Traversing a jungle is always an environment that I enjoy and Crystal Dynamics handled it well with its platforming and hunting mechanics. I don't like leaving games unfinished and Tomb Raider challenged this fine art. The initial feelings I had playing the game managed to get tipped on their head about halfway through the game. What I first thought was a game about exploring tombs, hunting with bows and surviving, quickly turned into a massive over-the-top slaughter fest.

The game turned into a mindless linear 3rd person shooter completely neglecting all of the core elements that made the beginning of the game good, while adding an overabundance of QTE sequences. If you're going to add QTE events, at least make the actual action sequences that come with them enjoyable to watch. The God of War franchise is one that immediately springs to mind.

As mentioned in the title, the absolute lowest point of the game are the final hours. It immediately reminded me of Transformers Dark of the Moon. If you've seen it you'll remember how everlasting the final 'pillar' scene(s) was. It just felt like it would never stop; you were pleading for it to end.

Also, what is with gaming protagonists these days having such asinine and annoying friends? Far Cry 3 now this? C'mon developers. Visuals were good, story was forgettable.

All in all, the game managed to degrade to a point where playing it felt more like a chore than an enjoyable and immersive experience.
