I preordered "Everyone's Gone to The Rapture" and was utterly disappointed, I waited, read reviews and bought "The Witness" and am enthralled. It is, divisive, but it is a masterclass in simple ideas culminating in an experience as "art." My simplest sell on the game is the gorgeous, supposedly superficial (and gorgeous) world is integral to its experience: to use perspective to find clues in its environs, and to use its great expanse of freedom as a buffer to frustration. Can't solve that tough puzzle? Wander to another. Its mechanics will percolate into your subconscious while you try your hand at another. While "Portal" makes you feel clever for signposting the solution, "Witness" proves your own smarts because you earned it. Keep a smartphone camera and paper & pen handy!
