The Warriors, have in fact, come out to plaayyyy-aaayy.

User Rating: 8.9 | The Warriors XBOX
The Warriors, based on the 1979 movie of the same name, definitely does the movie justice. The game delves deeper into the world of warring NYC gangs than the movie did. The game picks up 1 month before the opening of the movie, that being said, don't worry if you haven't seen the movie.

Gameplay
The Warriors is a pretty straight forward beat-em up, but at the same time its so much more than that. Unlike most beat-em ups the story in The Warriors is excellent. Its deep, entertaining, and you get into it. The fighting engine is awesome. Combos, grab moves, snap hits, tackles, you name it, The Warriors has it. Add that to the fact that you can get swarmed by 8 guys at a time, makes for some pretty intense brawling. You also get to lay your mark on the city by tagging over rival gangs graffiti, this is a good break from the brawling aspect of the game. Another cool aspect to the game is the way you make your money. Because your a gang member, you have to act like one. You mug people, steal tape decks out of cars (its the seventies, remember) and break into stores and steal stuff, its attention to detail, and its another cool break from the brawling.

Graphics
Like most Rockstar games, the graphical presentation of The Warriors leaves room for improvement. From the character models, to clothing, to environment rendering, it all falls short. However the environment rendering works for what it has to do. The image of NYC in the movie, was that of a dark, dreary, and broken city, and that is the feel you get in the game. So the environments do get the job done. But because there can be so much happening on the screen at once, I'll sacrifice crappy graphics for keeping the frame rate smooth.

Sound
What the Warriors lacks in graphics, it makes up for in sound. From the sound of punches hitting someons gut, to a brick smacking someones head, its all there. The voice acting is excellent. A few of the original actors from the 1979 version of The Warriors, lended their voices for their respective characters. As for the other characters, not a bad voice actor in the bunch.

The Warriors is defintely worth a play, whether you've seen the movie or not. The story is excellent, and the fighting is awesome, and the graffiti, mugging, and stealing aspect is also a pretty cool addition. Again, definitley go out and at least rent this game. The Warriors, have in fact, come out to plaayyyy-aaayy.
