Ask any old-school gamer if they have played this, and I'll put my 2 cents they'll reply with a "yes".

User Rating: 9 | The Ultimate DOOM PC
Doom. The name says it all. ID has created a game where any player, regardless of age, can simply be in the shoes of a marine with an attitude problem-and he can prove it (BFG 9000, max cell ammunition anyone?). After all, what can be more fun than experiencing the sensation of firing a missile launcher without getting burned?

And yes, you can experience a simulation of monster-slaying fest right in the comfort of your own computer.

Story:

You're a marine, a member of a crack-squad of the best soldiers on Earth. Sent to Mars after an emergency call, you and your teammates discover that an anomaly is currently going on Phobos and Deimos, which are both moons of Mars. In a desperate attempt to restablish communication, the team is sent. In a matter of hours, they are all dead-except for you, because you were ordered to secure the perimeter and did not jump into the bloodbath.

With only a mere handgun, you step into the dark and intimidating corridors of the first complex. You hear snarls in the distance.

They know you're here.

*Note*: This version of Doom includes a new episode, which explains the Marine's adventures right after his return to Earth.

Gameplay:

Simple as cake. Run around, grab weapons and anything else that's of good use, blast monsters to bits, activate switches, find the exit. That's it. But of course, it becomes so addicting that it doesn't become repetitive.

After all, you have be prepared for ANYTHING. The last thing you want is seeing a demon charge at you and you find out you only have 20% health left and a shotgun with 3 shells remaining in the gun.

The 4th Episode is meant for a veteran-you have been warned. Do not play it if you are inexperienced.

Music:

Some can fit the environment, while some can be plain annoying. Of course, you can always turn the music off. Most of the 4th Episode's music are rehashes.

Graphics:

For a 1993 game, the graphics are awesome. The guns are VERY detailed, monsters are quite realistic, and of course, the blood can make you squeamish if you're not careful.

Controls:

Arrow keys to move. Shift+Arrow keys to run. Ctrl Key to fire weapon. Number keys switch weapons. FPS games can't get simpler than that.

Rent or Buy:

BUY. This is the game that made the FPS genre go down in history.

I'll see you on Earth as we fight the Demons together-in the next game-DOOM II.
