Without question the best Zelda Game on a handheld. Arguably the best Action/RPG on a handheld of the time!

I still remember the Christmas morning when I found my first compact gameboy. It only weighed 10 pounds and could easily be carried in a 30"X30" container! Okay, so that's an exaggeration, but still, I will never forget my memories of playing Zelda, Link's Awakening on the gameboy.
In this game, Link takes on a different feel to all the other titles. Princess Zelda does not play any part in this game what-so-ever. That in now way diminishes the game. You play a young boy, Link who has woken on a mysterious island after his ship wrecks. He spends his time trying to wake a "Windfish" who is in constant slumber, so he can get home to Hyrule.
This game provides the music we all know and love, as well as some decent sound effects for the time, though they are limited. The sword swishing is still there though, so there's no need to worry. The graphics were as good as they could be at the time, not to mention on a handheld! There are no glitches or maladies in the graphics that I could find, and believe me, I've played this game over and over again. It has countless replay value.
The game has eight levels you spend time running through like all other Zelda games. These levels do well in mixing up the action and bosses. The combat system, like the Gameboy, is simple and easy to use. It consists of using the A and B buttons to use the desired weapons. Oh the weapons, there are plenty of those too. You can mix it up when you play. You don't have to just use the sword like most of the other Zelda games. That really comes in handy when you reach the final nightmare at the end of the game. (yes that was a hint)
This game has grown up with me. It offers me many nostalgic memories and will always have a place in my heart.
