So good that it you actually feel the bird's wings flapping and the water splashing at you!
Suddenly, lightning strikes the ship, and everything goes blank. Link wakes up to find himself inside a house. A young girl named Marin tells him that she found him lying on the beach. With just his shield,
Link goes off to the beach to find his sword. Upon getting it, an owl swoops down and tells him that his adventure in this new island has just begun....
Such begins one of the best and most original Gameboy games ever created. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the epitome of old - school handheld gaming. The perfect controls and innovative gameplay are perfectly and seamlessly meshed with the game's eye - popping graphics and catchy musical score.
One gaming aspect that had always separated Zelda from the rest of the Action/RPG titles is it's originality. This reflects Nintendo's quest to glorify the mantrs: Quality over Quantity. For example, one of the bosses in the game is a huge face; one of the levels take place inside a huge catfish's mouth! This game gets full marks for originality.
Now for music. Well, Koji Kondo has indeed outdone himself. With such a small scale to work on, one wonders how he thought the whole soundtrack and sound effects. Tal Tal Mountain Range sports one of the better BGM of the game.
Graphics. Nintendo once again impressed everyone with it's flawless graphics for a game released way back in 1992. Though it's black and white, they tried hard to make it look amazing. They succeeded. Realistic people, animals and monsters. Wonderful effects in every dungeon. 10/10.
This game should be rewarded for it's terrific sense of RPG. 8 dungeons each loaded with it's own fun puzzles. All dungeons are also full of their own unique mini-bosses and bosses. A very long trading sequence in which the player finds very innovative. A full arsenal of Link's own weapons he finds throughout his stay on the island.
Truly, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a game that Nintendo is proud of. If you want a very good RPG that will glue you to your gaming console, this is one of the best choices there is to date.
