Breathtaking

User Rating: 10 | The Last of Us Remastered PS4

I don't even have words to describe how utterly beautiful this game us.

This was the first game I played on my PS4 when I traded in every single XBox item I had, and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect and heartbreaking experience.

Survival/horror games have a very tender spot in my heart; I’m a huge fan of things like Dishonored (the first game only), Dead Space 1 & 2, and Bioshock. But more importantly than that, I’m a huge fan of games that make me fall in love with the characters and a rich plot and driven storyline capable of practically reducing me to tears.

The Last of Us is all of those things combined, and more. Joel’s and Ellie’s relationship is the heart of this game; the setting a stunning backdrop; the playable mechanics a perfect combination of Dead Space and Rise of the Tomb Raider. The Winter segment of the game is possibly one of the most anxiety-inducing, psychologically terrifying portions of a game I’ve ever had the fortune of playing.

I’m very late to this party, I know, so there isn’t a lot I can say about this game that hasn’t already been said by hundreds of others. The Last of Us is visually stunning, Joel’s and Ellie’s relationship is one of the finest I’ve ever seen put to screen by game, the setting is incredible, and is completely deserving of every single award it has received.

Endure and survive. I can’t wait for The Last of Us Part II.
