An incredibly-dynamic monocromatic fighting game with an excellent soundtrack and a lot of characters .

It's sad to see how many sorry fighting games were released for the Game Boy like Street Fighter 2 while others like Samurai Showdown and Battle Arena Toshiden were slow and simply not good enough , by the other hand also Takara-made KOF 95 was surprisingly good but a second version that never came to America was a Masterpiece among 1997 hand held standards .

King of Fighters 96 for GB got some of the most important SNK's flagship characters including the Sacred Team : Kyo, Iori and Chizuru, Fatal Fury's Terry, Andy, May, Gesse and Krauser, Art of Fighting's Ryo, Robert and Mr Big and also Athena, Leona, Mature and Goro Daimon. The game features the same game rules like three on three battles and the basics of combat like roll, charge, strong attacks using the two button, taunt and defense while jumping .

KOF 95 to 96 was a big change in the arcades and the GB versions were not exception . The characters got a little bigger -even not enough to make normald attacks worth in fighting- only 6 characters return from 95 but they changed a lot -like Kyo's 95 to 96 Arcade fighting style- and all of them got all the Moves and Super Moves from their Arcade counterpart and a few new improvements like some Super Moves that shock on all the screen making the battles more impressive in a x-men-capcom style . The battles are quite dynamic with great playability and the moves are easy to do .

The scenarios look good and the characters animation is quite good they really took it straight from the Arcade . The tracks are really good and they really resemble the ones in the Arcade it really look they put a lot of work on every track . The sound effects are good too but if you're playing on Super GB they change to awful .

The game includes Bosses characters available with a code : Goenitz, Chizuru Boss, Mr Karate ( Takuma Strong version ) and riot versions of Leona and Iori -who appear at the end if you play with the Sacred Team- this versions are far more stronger than in KOF 97 with a couple of new and devastating Super Moves .

This game was really good -for his time- the grahpics and music were somehow low but very creative so they ressemble quite good all the important things from the Arcade like music, animations and dynamic gameplay .
