Without doubt, the best game in the entire series :)

User Rating: 9 | The House of the Dead 4 PS3
The House Of The Dead series is something I grew up with. Back in the Dreamcast days, it was one of those games that I would actually get scared of whenever I played it. Just the look of the zombies made me kinda scared, and some of the cutscenes as well. Imagine playing a scary game in the middle of the night with no lights on...yeah, creepy huh? Well the day has finally arrived. The House Of The Dead 4 finally receives a console port after 7 years in the arcades. Yeah, it's about damn time right? House Of The Dead fans such as myself went nuts when we heard The House Of The Dead 4 would be coming to the Playstation 3. But, does the game still hold up after 7 years, or is it a waste that deserves to be shot down like a zombie? Let's find out.

Plot:
The House Of The Dead 4 takes place 3 years after the events of House Of The Dead 2. AMS agents, James Taylor and Kate Green are waiting for backup since they have been trapped in the AMS building. After the ground shakes, Jame's PDA goes off, showing that zombies are breaking down the door. With only guns in their hands, James and Kate must escape from the AMS buildings, to the sewers, subway station, the streets, etc and find whoever is behind this whole situation. While all of this is happening, Goldman, the main villain in House Of The Dead 2, has set up a nuclear missile that is suppose to kill every human being. James and Kate have to stop Goldman as well.

Gameplay
If you haven't played any of The House Of The Dead games, it's very simple so let me explain. House Of The Dead 4 is a classic rail shooter game where you aim your gun at the zombies and shoot them before they attack you. You might think that it is boring, but no, it's very fun. It's very similar to games like Time Crisis, Virtual Cop, etc. The first two House Of The Dead games made you shoot zombies with a pistol, the third was a shotgun, but House Of The Dead 4 gives you an Uzi. You might think that it makes the game a piece of cake and you can just destroy everything in your path, but no, there is a challenge. The reason you are equipped with an Uzi is because there are millions of zombies on the screen. There's a lot of em, so that's why you are equipped with the Uzi. The game is quite challenging, I'm not going to lie. It's fun, but it can get frustrating at the same time. This is also the first game in the series that allows you to use grenades. That's right, grenades. Let's say you got a crowd of zombies and you can't handle it, just throw your grenade, and BOOM, goes the dynamite. Not to mention, this is also the first game in the series to allow you to shake zombies off you. Whenever a zombie grabs you, you have to shake your controller to get them off you. Shake em off successful, they'll get pushed back, which gives a chance to shoot them.
The House Of The Dead 4 also gives your the opportunity to select which paths to choose. Each path is different, so you can pick any of em. Along the way, you can collect some coins and golden frogs to add to your points. You can even collect life ups to add to your health. The Playstation 3 supports your regular PS3 Dual Shock controller, the Playstation Move, and Sharpshooter. I highly recommend the Playstation Move with the Sharpshooter, makes you feel like you are in the arcades . You also have the option to play The House Of The Dead 4 Special once you beat The House Of The Dead 4. It takes place after the events of The House Of The Dead 4. You can select which chapter you want to play, how many lifes you want, credits, blood color, difficulty, etc. Lot's a variety here .

Graphics
Since this game was made in 2005, don't expect the graphics to be "Oh my god this looks gorgeous!" That doesn't mean the graphics are bad at all. I still think they kinda hold up to today's standards. The game looks realistic kinda when it comes to the graphics. There is a lot of details of the textures. Blood stains on the walls, floors, broken buildings, structures, etc.

Controls
The controls are simple. it all depends on what you are using. Like I said, I recommend the Playstation Move and the sharpshooter if you want that arcade feeling. If you are using the Dual Shock, it's also simple. The X, Square, Circle, and Triangle buttons are all the reload buttons. The L1 and L2 are for throwing grenades, and the R1 and R2 buttons are for shooting. The analog sticks and the d-pad is for moving your crosshair around.

Music
The music is great. It seems that each song fits each stage well. What I especially love about the soundtrack is that there are a few remixes of songs from The House Of The Dead 2 that play in The House Of The Dead 4. For example, when you are driving to Goldman's building and entering his building, those songs are remixed to sound even better. Awesome right?

Conclusion
In conclusion, The House Of The Dead 4 for the PS3 is definitely worth the $10. It seems that I can never get tired of this game at all. I must say, this is probably my favorite game in the series. Cheers to SEGA for an awesome port, and for finally listening to the fans. Remember, its challenging, so be ready. I go for headshots and scores, so if your like me, it'll make it a little more harder. But other than that, it's a great game, go try it out
