Nice graphics, and special effects can't make up for a lack of content. BFTP creates another "alright" Pacific WWII FPS.

What is it about the World War Two genre that makes it impossible to create a successful shooter set in the Pacific theater?

Well, if companies keep putting out games like this, then I doubt we will see many more attempts at this theatre. The failure of MOH:PA, and many others before it, has left a sour taste in all our mouths. MOH:PA, a game that promised much, but delivered a buggy mess. A single player campaign that was actually pretty good, minus little things, and a multiplayer that was promising with new objective modes, but along with some new innovations came lag, bugs, and a small player base.

This is my first review, and I'm typing this because I wish I had a review before I bought this game. I hope you people will find this useful. So a little bit about myself. I've been playing games my whole life, starting with Doom and all that hoopla. I first started getting into PC games again with the release of MOH:AA, and of course COD. I'm currently a history major, and I enjoy all forms of video gaming. Well…PC gaming. My rig? Nothing special, I consider myself a man of the people. Not like those 8800 elitist.

Alright, now about this game. Following in MOH:PA's footsteps, History Channel's Battle for the Pacific fails where it could have succeeded greatly filling the vacuum that is the pacific theatre.

The Good:
Great Player Models
Current Generation Graphics
Interesting Controls

The Bad:
Lack of Content
Small Bugs
Lacking Multiplayer
Bad AI

First off, this game has great weapons models. The M1 Garand looks great, as well as the other few weapons available. Having heard about this game a few days ago I went on the hunt for some screen shots. I found some, the same I'm sure you've all stumbled upon. The game looks great in those shots, but when I went to my local story to purchase this game the box featured hideous pictures that made me think twice about purchasing. When I started playing the game, it looks more like the images from the internet. So don't let the box scare you away.

So yeah, the graphics look sharp. When reloading, and in certain situations a great field of depth effect kicks in...And it looks great! The player models are the weakest part of the graphics, but again I couldn't tell you how impressed I was with the weapon models.

ALSO on the box is says PC CD ROM, but the game is actually a DVD which didn't affect me, but I know some people are still living in the 20th century. Anyway you need to upgrade....

The controls feel loose, and somewhat more realistic than other FPS...which is refreshing.

The game lacks options such as graphic settings. You can only adjust the resolution, and a few minor settings.

Single player is alright. I'm more of a multiplayer person, but I had a good time. The enemy AI is something to be ashamed of.
This game features good rag doll physics, but at times can be a little extreme.

On to the multi player.....as stated above...the only reason I really bought this was for the MP. Sooooo if you feel the same way....DON'T BUY THIS GAME! MP is filled with nothing. No servers...I believe they only allow listen servers..One which I created, and have been sitting in for about half an hour without a single person joining. Worst part is that you can't run around the map until someone joins. This kind of discourages people from starting a server and trying to get people to play in my opinion.

THIS GAME LACKS CONTENT...although the jungles look amazing filed with many models. The game only has four guns. No joke. M1 Garand, Thompson SMG, and the same for the Japanese (1 Rifle, 1 SMG). Along with this is a few mounted MG's, and of course the pistol. This game needs a BAR, a M1 Carbine, and the LMG and another Rifle for the Japanese.
Overall it's a decent attempt at the genre that seems to always fail. We don't' have many WWII FPS coming out since COD4 went modern, so if you're a fan of historical FPS then make the jump, but try to get it on sale or something.

This is a value game meaning its $40. So I didn't expect something groundbreaking. Overall I'm glad that the History Channel decided to add MP after the Civil War game kind of flopped. I doubt they had much to do with the development though, but this game seems to have less bugs than the Civil War game.

As for the pacific theatre genre, I guess we will have to wait for the COD of the pacific we've all be dreaming of late at night. As mentioned before this title is a value game, which means unlike MOH:PA, I doubt we will see patches which tried to breathe life into the failed Medal of Honor game, just a little too late.
