A legend in gaming history: Skyrim

User Rating: 9 | The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim NS

Skyrim is an open world RPG released by Bethesda who are well known for many great games from before and after it's release. Now that it is being released on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation VR i feel it is time to review this game for the newcomers of the game. I have always loved this game and I can't wait to experience it in VR.

Continuing on. In the game you play as the Dragonborn who is a being born with the power to speak the language of the dragons. An ancient dragon who hopes to bring the end of days, named Alduin, is your main enemy in the game. I won't spoil anything but there are many things to learn of the lore and story. There are entire freaking books in the game explaining the history and details of this fascinating fantasy world. You will cross paths with unique and cool characters and situations.

As for the game play, it plays beautifully. It can be played as a first or third person shooter. Well without the guns anyway. The setting is similar to vikings and old Scandinavia with cold forests and colossal mountains. There are many places to explore and discover and you can maybe find a quest or two just prowling around.

There are many ways of fighting. You can use Magic, Archery, one handed weapons, two handed weapons, and shields. There are many skill trees that make the game unique in every play through. One play through you could be an elf who uses his archery skills or you could be a magic lizard person. There are even different types of magic and many spells to learn. How you play the game is entirely up to you, that's amazing. I only wish more games would allow more freedom in how you play. An open environment and experience are the best kinds. Truly the open game play is what hits home with me.

Though it is an amazing game there are also a few flaws. Since the game was a little ahead of its time and has a lot of things to do in it, it often crashes or glitches out. Luckily the new generation of gaming makes the game more playable but that doesn't mean it always will work. One time I was on a mission but couldn't leave the mission area, that's not the worst part though. The worst part was that I couldn't progress the either. I was stuck in the same spot and was forced to quit. In my confusion I travel in and out of auto save spots which made my past saves unreachable but still, the game broke and forced me to delete a level 50 character.

In conclusion I give this game a 9/10. The game is amazing and is in fact so good that it hasn't died out even after 7 years since its release. It has survived 2 generations of gaming, going from Xbox360 and PS3 to Xbox one and PS4. Now it is being released on the Switch and PSVR which is insane. Its flaws. while minor, can be game breaking but the game still lives and it is clear on how and why that is so.

I hope you find my review useful, this game holds a special place in my heart and always will. This is KomodoSai Signing off.
