The Chronicles Of Riddick is first hand proof that a drawn out story is not necessary to create top notch quality.

From reading countless threads, reviews and previews, I knew that The Chronicles Of Riddick would not be the longest game in the world. In fact, this game is so good that the length of it was pretty much the only con haters could think of when bashing it. With that information learned, I proceeded to Blockbuster. Rented it and, for about three or four hours a day, beat it by day 2. But did that mean I didn't enjoy the experience? Hell no. The first thing I noticed about Riddick was the visuals. The game simply looks great, but the amount of jaggies can be a bit overwhelming during the first hour or so you play the game. I got used to them pretty quickly, and I don't see why most people wouldn't. It's certainly one of the, if not THE, best looking Xbox game I have ever played. This game falls under the catagory now known as FPA, a First Person Adventure game. Even though a good portion of the game is the standard FPS point of view, there are definitely a good amount of parts where stealth action takes place. Climbing boxes, sneaking past guards or sneaking up behind them and snapping their necks. These aspects of the game are what coins the "Adventure" term of Riddick. The game does not experience much, if not any slowdown at all. Since it's also an adventure game, and not particularly as linear as a FPS, there are multiple ways of handling situations and therefore slowdowns that I have not run across may be possible. Other than that the game is very smooth. To sum this up quickly, Riddick deserves a rent at it's very best. I do not enjoy rushing through my games, so I tried to take my time, and became very surprised that I could beat it in merely 8-9 hours while doing so. However, don't shun away from this surpise gem because of it's length. The best movie-to-game adaptation ever certainly deserves your attention.
