The heroes in a half-shell have still got it.

User Rating: 9.5 | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 1989 Classic Arcade X360
The Ninja Turtle craze--how could I forget it? I used to own a lot of the toys back when it was so popular. I tried to impress my friends by reciting lines from the feature film. And, of course, I played all the video games. Even this one when it was in the arcade. What a joy to finally be able to experience the 1989 Konami TMNT beat-em-up on my 360 anytime I want.

For those who are worried that the 360 Live port of TMNT Arcade would be as horrifically butchered as the unlockable game found in Battle Nexus, I can tell you right now that such is not the case here. The 360 Live port retains all the original sounds, music and voices from the arcade classic. Nothing has been compromised. You get the original arcade game in all its glory.

But how does it play exactly, you might ask? Well, it depends on how much you like Konami beat-em-ups. They're unique in a sense that they're not so much like Final Fight or Double Dragon. They had their own flavor, and that's basically what TMNT encompasses--it's own unique style of arcade beat-em-up. It might be a bit difficult at times, but you get unlimited credits, so you can basically play, die a thousand times and beat the game without ever having to waste quarters. When you play online co-op, however, you're allowed a limited number of credits. This is done deliberately so that the game retains a sense of challenge, seeing how far a group of friends can get with the continues they've got rather than just beat the game with unlimited credits and find it too easy.

This is a great game, and Konami did the Ninja Turtle license proud with competent, solid games; a rarity amongst licensed products. You'd do well to add it to your collection, even if you're not familiar with the Ninja Turtles. Now, let's see about bringing Turtles in Time to the forefront.
