Cowabunga! With these words, an incredibly fun arcade game began. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” put four friends in control of Leonardo and his katana blade, Donatello and his bo staff, Raphael with his twin sai, and Michelangelo with his nunchaku.

The players guide the Turtles through multiple levels in which they face seemingly endless hordes of Foot soldiers, the evil denizens of Shredder’s organization.

In “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” nearly everything on the screen can be used as a weapon, from manhole covers to mailboxes.

True to videogame form, each level ends with a “boss.” The “bosses” in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” included characters including Rocksteady, Bebop, and Krang in his big robot suit.

The Turtles have been showcased in many videogames on a number of different consoles, but none have even come close to this classic from 1989.
