Niche market game that nicely fills the void between full flight simulators and arcade-style play

User Rating: 8 | Take On Helicopters PC
The awkwardly titled game "Take On Helicopters" is a refreshing mix of flight simulation and interactive gameplay. You take the role of a son who's father has recently passed away leaving you his struggling helicopter business. Your job is to take a variety of contracts to keep the business running. The missions range from assisting the police to search and rescue and everything in between. The dynamics of flight are fairly accurately modeled without going overboard which should provide entertainment to both novices and flight simulation enthusiasts. While you can fly with just a keyboard and mouse you'll be much better off with a joystick, throttle, and rudder pedals. This is not a fighting sim so don't expect much in the way of rockets and explosions though the open nature of the game's mission editor (using the ARMA II engine) may lend itself to fan created missions of that type. There are a few available as of the launch date with many more expected over time. All in all a fun game and worth the money.
