Not a bad effort using a flawed game engine

User Rating: 4.2 | SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom XBOX
Difficult to review this one as I am not a normal fan of SNK beat em ups. While back in the day Art of Fighting and Samurai Showdown were absolute classics the franchise of Fatal Fury etc has become regressive rather than progressive. The problem is all down to collsion detection. While capcom's fighting games (excluding Marvel v Capcom series and fighting Jam) have always made you feel like there was impact in a hit - the SNK fighters are riddled with glitches where moves float through body parts and make a horrible noise on impact (apart from Ryo's Zanretskin)

The graphics are very attractive old skool and are more pleasing than Capcom's move to childish sprites. The backgrounds are also better than Capcom's effort. The music and sound is dreadful overall but that still does not give Capcom the edge. The key problem again comes down to the way characters handle in SNK games. There is a lack of solidity (far from the perfect Garou Mark of the Wolves) and this is why Capcom's fighters are more successful. This type of fighting game is simply not fun anymore and SNK should rethink there approach in future (and 3D is not the option!!)

I only have this game cause the box art and manual are the usual high calibre Playmore packaging. Buy Garou Mark of the Wolves for a far better SNK effort
