The portable version of Super Street Fighter IV is not perfect, some quibbles with the controls, but it's still good.

Fighters on the DS vary in quality, I've really enjoyed some, but it's not a genre I'm too keen on playing on a small screen and with a D-pad that's implemented in the system itself, of course the 3DS has an analog circle pad, which works well enough, the bigger problem here are the shoulder buttons, I liked the DS Lite shoulder buttons better, the ones on the 3DS stick out, and they just...I don't know, they don't feel that great. Like in many other DS fighting games, the developers realize the limitations of the device's controls, so they simplify it by utilizing the touch pad, you can customize and add certan attacks to this "quicklist" of sorts, and just press one of the four big buttons on the touch screen to perform some of the special attacks, super or ultra combo's. It's defintely appreciated and a nice feature, and I would say almost necessary, until you get more comfortable with the controls at least, it makes it very accessible, and you can actually win by a combinaton of button mashing and touch pad pushing, which may aggrivate some, especially if you battle someone online, and they win by the help of these simplified control features, but in the end, the truly skilled will prevail, and I'm sure a hardcore Street Fighter fan could kick my ass anyday. It all comes down to personal taste, and I would rather play a fighter with a controller pad or an arcade stick.

Yeah, you're probably wondering why I've only given it a 7.5? Well, I have mentioned the controls which are less than perfect, and the 3D is very well done I must say, but it adds nothing to the gameplay, you might as well play it in 2D, it plays faster then as well, doesn't drain the batteries like crazy and doesn't tire your eyes as much. But I was always more into Mortal Kombat and Tekken, don't get me wrong, I like Street Fighter 2, who doesn't, but I don't have the same affection for these characters as I do for the characters in the aforementioned franchises, though I really like Chun-Li and it was nice seeing some Final Fight characters in the game including my favorite FF character Guy, now THAT's a series of games I absolutely love, the 2D ones at least. The game is chock full of modes, the classic Arcade mode, with Seth as a final boss at the end, he's still pretty difficult to beat, for me at least. You have all the characters at the beginning of the game, ALL of them, which is great on the one hand, I won't have to trudge through Arcade mode again and again and again, on the other hand, it doesn't give me that much incentive to keep playing. I'm sure Street Fighter fans are gonna love this game, I liked it, it's not my favorite fighting game, not even on a handheld system, but it's a nice way to kill a couple of...would say hours but with the 3DS battery and all, it's a nice way to kill a couple of minutes while waiting for the bus or something, if you like the genre, give it a try, but I wouldn't say it's a reason to get a 3DS.
