*DISCLAIMER: Hi, I'm back with another one. In case it matters, this review is based on the "Super Mario 3D All-Stars" version of the game on the Switch. Not sure if that matters, but I thought I'd mention it*
Pros:
- Just as much platforming greatness as the "Super Mario" series has always been known for.
- Extremely fun and memorable level design.
- Controls are butter smooth and extremely easy to get into, especially on the Switch re-release.
- Like many games in the series, the collect-a-thon elements are super fun.
- I see why others found it too challenge, but for me, I think it strikes the perfect balance (it helps that the controls make difficult levels a bit easier to stomach).
- Presented some fun and clever ideas that 3D "Mario" games haven't really played with since.
- F.L.U.D.D. offers the ability to do some extremely cool stuff with platforming.
- Yoshi's actually here! Awesome!
- Visually, it's an absolute treasure.
- It shouldn't be surprising but yep, there are bangers on this soundtrack.
- Chessy as it may be, I applaud them for adding voice acting in this one.
Cons:
- I personally had fun with it, but I see how others can hate the Blue Coin hunting.
Consensus: I see how "Super Mario Sunshine" has kinda become a lesser-loved "Super Mario" game compared to its other titles, but to me, this is still just as clever and fun as almost any other entry in the franchise. I feel like this is another one of those cases where the things people didn't really like about it were the things I enjoyed; even with how much I loved "Super Mario 64," this felt like an extremely fresh follow-up that presented enough clever ideas to satisfy me. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but all in all, I had a blast with it. Definitely check it out for yourself.
Final rating: 10 out of 10 "Fantastic"
