It's been said before, but this game is the closest Nintendo has come to recreating the feeling many had playing Super Mario 64 in the 90's. Having just explored Super Mario 3D All Stars, the original inspiration can feel dated. I can imagine someone born long after the heyday of the N64 not understanding what all the fuss was about with the original 3D Mario.
In comes Super Mario Odyssey. Updated look, vastly improved controls/camera, and fresh mechanics that build on the beloved core. If you loved 3D Marios, you should play this. If you like Nintendo, you should play this. If you enjoy platformers and puzzles, you should play this. If you like casual gaming, play this! (Don't worry, there are plenty of challenges for those who want to find them). I highly suggest collecting enough power moons to see all the locations the game has to offer.
