Fun family friendly video game

User Rating: 8 | Super Lucky's Tale PC

Microsoft and playful released 1 of the few platformers available on the Xbox One. But it failed because the VR sucked and it was deemed generic and tepid so it got ported to several different platforms including PC and Switch. So how does it fair here? Fairly well

STORY

You are Lucky, a cute Anthropomorphic Fox who must get back to his land by defeating The Evil Cat league and getting all the pages to go back to his habitat.

GAMPLAY

SLT is a 3D platformer reminding of Banjo Kazooie and every hop and bopper you ever played besides Sonic the Hedgehog. You collect stuff through the multiple levels and are put on trials and go through jumping puzzles. It's a nice cute little romp.

You can collect your name just like in Donkey Kong country. The camera stays at a nice distance rather than being controlled so even if it's far away from you it will make objects dither so you can see Lucky.

There are sidescrolling stages.

It isn't too hard but some challenges are hard. You can buy clothing to make Lucky look slightly different than he did. Cute clothes like Lederhosen and more. They are all cosmetic and only come in context of a mission.

The levels are simple and won't get you stuck.

GRAPHICS

Super Lucky Tale has some very nice graphics. I don't know why it lags so heavily on my 1k rig but it does. However whatever port you get it's sure to look good because Lucky has a very very cute art style. Very colorful cartoon worlds. What are not so cute are most of the NPCs that look like Castle Crashers or Alien Hominid. Lucky himself is very cute and well animated in everything he does. It's practically a Westlake Hills simulator. Lucky is sure to age well.

SOUND

STL is super peaceful sounding music. It's alert but calming at the same time. It's like Spyro but less cultural. Lucky sounds like a kid but isn't too annoying. What can be weird and annoying is this Simlish the characters speak. This probably gave the game designers a budgetary advantage to make text boxes.

OVERALL

Lucky is a game that is completely inoffensive. I would give it to a platformer lover or anyone under 14. It maybe hard at times but still a smooth experience.
