This is what "Beat em' up" games should be.

User Rating: 9.8 | Return of Double Dragon SNES
Its been 13 long years since Super Double Dragon came out in North America back in 1992, 13 years makes a difference.. within 13 years, we've witnessed the rise of the Playstation; both of them..... we've seen Nintendo hit it big with Zelda.... we've seen the fall of Sega in 2002.... and now we look foreward the PS3 and Xbox360. But its games like Super Double Dragon that remind us of simpler, sometimes, maybe even "happier" days when videogames were quite possibly "as good as it gets". Super Double Dragon takes you through with the same duo as the other DD games did; you play as Billy and Jimmy.....or in other words: "The white guy in jeans", and Guile's long lost cousin (can somebody say "Broomhead"????) Through 7 levels, you'll beat up people in casinos, fight on 18-wheelers, and take on big hulks that occasionally make you say "oh crap... i'm screwed", but never out of frustration. The game never makes you frustrated, which is one of the most noticable aspects................even if you keep getting killed on the elevator. The controls were really easy to get into, and fighting enemies never required you to execute painful button-mashing that some games force you to do. The graphics aren't the prettiest-looking by today's standards...and sometimes you may not like the overusage of trumpets in stage 2's music..... and you might notice that the other guy looks like Guile from street fighter... but thats okay, it reminds us of the stiff competition companies were in during the 90s, and sometimes that stiff competition churned out some positive games. And even if you didn't like playing it on your own, its always fun to go into 2-player mode and beat your enemies silly with a friend. I remember spending hours playing through it on co-op mode, which was always fun. Yes, there have been a lot of beat'em up type games over the years... some good, some not so good........okay.. mostly not-so good, these days, sometimes beating people up with simple mechanics just isn't that fun anymore. SDD was probably the best out of all the action games the SNES had to offer, so if you still have an SNES and long for some nostalgic action, then by all means, pick up SDD.
