you can't go wrong with this one!
the action takes place in medieval times,at 100 hundred years since dracula's last rise.now he's terrorising again transylvania so it time once again for the belmont family to resolve this apocalypse,because dracula has the fiercest legion of monsters-frankestein,the werewolf,mummies,zombies,the grim reaper,death knights,all hell in 2 words.& a chain wip alone must kill all this monsters!simon belmont up-grades his leather wip to a small & then a large chain wip that can rotate 360 degrees.he also pick-up a dagger,poison,a boomerang,a clock to stop the time & the holy cross that anihilates all enemies from the screen.it's the single castlevania game which i played in which you have assigned a separate button for the special weapon,you don't have that complicated gameplay in which you have to push up/left or up/right to fire the weapon...
there are 11 stages full of deadly traps & annoying monsters.you begin outside the castle courtyard & finish the game up in the castle throne where you fight count dracula to put him to sleep for another 100 years.
the game overall is very hard,gets frustrating a lot of times but the boss battles are surprisingly easy,except for the battle with the grim reaper.it drives you insane!you need the speed of sound to press those buttons on the controller.he fires with an unholy speed sharp things at you.the battle with dracula is a relief after the exhausting fight with the grim reaper.he's predictable so you can beat him fast.when he has little health left,the transforms & the room gets red & he fires lightning waves...it looks like a disco-party,it makes me laugh.lol!the final battle in a castlevania game looks like a disco-party where dracula is the dj & simon is the dancer.the music playing is vampyre killer.you would want to boogy after you nail him.
the graphics awhere amazing at that time.it has 2d levels & some of them have optical illusions that make you think it's 3d!this happens especially at the chandelier corridor.another interestin part is at the rotating room where you have to grab the ring with your wip to avoid fallin in the deadly spikes.the most annoying enemies are the bats & the flying hydra heads.at the treasure level,you will fight with a bat made of gold & sparkles,he is amazing.you can afford to stare because this battle is easy,but don't stare too much,you must anihilate him.the game has infinite continues but if you exhaust all your player lives,you will start from the begining of the level so you have to be carefull if you have 00 lives & you are at a sub-level that ends with 3 or 4(ex:2-3 or 2-4,4-3 or 4-4).you start from 2-1 or 4-1 etc & it's not a pleasure too sweat again with all those traps & monsters.
i highly recommend this game for any gamer enthusiast.it's gothic,medieval unlike the nintendo ds castlevania games that are more anime style.those are in fact castle-anime-inia!not castlevania,unfortunatelly.everything goes downhill at some point,i don't know why!
super castlevania 4 plays like the nes castlevania games,they are very similar but there's no doubt for me that part 4 is the 2nd best in series.only the rpg style of symphony of the night ranks the ps1 game better than this one.it also has a similar gameplay with the metroid games,that's why it's often called "metroidvania!".
konami made the most awesome games for the snes(& not only) & i think it's their best game made for the snes.a timelles classic...
