One of the best side scroll platform games of all time.

It was an instant classic when it first came out for the SNES, and it remains to be one of the great timeless classics of side scrolling platform games. I'd go as far to say that this game was probably one of the top 5 games for the SNES.

Castlevania 4 is an epic game with an absolutely epic soundtrack even by today's standards. The difficulty is just where it needs to be, it is easy enough to keep you moving through it lengthy adventure, but still has a hint of that Castlevania sting we have seen in previous games.

The games lengthy journey starts outside the castle, and the first half of the game is literally spent just trying to make your way through the outlaying area to get to the front door of Dracula's castle. Once inside, you will get the classic castle map from previous games showing your progression at the start of each stage.

Castlevania 4 brings together all of the nestalgia from previous installments that will bring a tear to the eye of any Castlevania enthusiast. Medusa, Frankenstein, Mummy, Bat, and Death all make their cameo boss fight appearances as well as some new bosses. You will pass through some of the classic environments, such as the main foyer, the lab, and the infamous and quintessential clock tower (which comes complete with the classic orchestrated soundtrack).

This game truly showcases what the SNES was capable of in terms of graphics, music, and effects. The controls are also noticeably better from the older games allowing you to whip up and down, at angles, and even to twirl the whip around.

After years and years since this game has originally released, I can still sit down and fire this game up and it is just as great as it was back in the day. A timeless classic with masterfully done music, and the right balance of challenge makes this game a legendary platform game of the ages.
