annoying-ish game.
being a huge sf fan, i had high hopes for this game. come off feeling annoyed with this game a bit.
after startup comes an annoying live login process, you will notice the super cheezy j-pop nsync wannabe soundrack that pervades all title screen.
i of course played ryu the the quiet but strong self righteous japanese guy. as will probalby 90 percent of ppl.
i start off fighting c. viper. she is a mysterious super sexy chick in hot leather pants sporting a cell phone. she has some fei long type kicks and uses her gadgets to poke you. well by now i realize this game has good graphics and good round music. play feels decent although frame rates go up and down quite drastically.
then it is on to blanka. always a tough fight i think. wrong! it appears blanka is slowish now and has been super nerfed. exept for his shock move which is now unbeatable. great news button mashing retards, now all you have to do to win is mash punch over and over like a total jackass.
then on to zangief. ah the fireball magnet. but what do you know, the suckiest guy in the world is now a superhuman, sporting moves that allow him to go right through my fireball, summon a glowing green axe, and proceed to double hit me low. amazing move. then he proceeds to use cheese tactics to grab me repeatedly when i get up, nothing i can do, and spinning piledrive my head into the grount. it takes quite a few tries to beat him. well by this point its obvious the computer has no morals about using previously thought cheese tactics to throw you and inflict massive amounts of damage and there isnt anything you can do about it.
i guess finallly they managed to make zangief good after a few decades and blanka bad, congratulations, but it just seems forced.
well next up is a new guy named abel. he proceeds to use cheese moves and tactics again passing right thru my fireballs somehow, grabbing me and slamming me for an immense amounts of damage. the cheesefest continues.
i proceed to fight balrog. to my suprise, another racistly stereotyped, over personality-fied brainchild of a japanese dork. it appears all his moves have a primal gorrilla sounding grunt to them, he makes ape noises, he lives in the jungle. when you beat him he yells "my fight money" in black voice insinuating that black ppl are shallow. and then to top it off ryu says you lack "introspection" racistly comparing him to a dumb monkey.
then i fight some fat loser from a trailer park cant remember his name but hes fat, crazy, and fat!
then its on to fight sagat which is somewhat satisfying and now it appears sagat has been super badass ified as well.
finally the last guy? who will it be?!!
to my disgust it is a blue skinned android seth. seth what a dork name. i hate that name. anyhow seth proceeds, to use the cheesiest set of moves ever seen. he makes smoke from mortal combat look pale by comparison with his arsenal of dissapear-and-immediately-appear-behind-you-and-throw-you-for-massive-damage moves. his uppercut is the best in the game and hits about ten times. he has a kick move that goes thru fireballs and anything else.
seths stage is very annoying. the music gets on your nerves terribly. the visuals have terrible colors the background is awkward looking and the frame rate varies dratically.
seths finishing move is particulary cheap and annoying as he shoots you out right into the camera and is aganizingly long. seth himself and the stage look like some kind of wannabe futuristic in a kiddy way, evil labratory of super heroes. gay.
seth really ruins the game as i just didnt even want to fight against his cheap annoying ass anymore after playing the game only a hour or so.
plus... the super moves are annoying and dont add to the game at all really. having to push punch X 3 all the time? button mashing for morons gameplay.
its difficult to dizzy your opponent, which was my favorite part. even hitting them 20 times with chun-li button mashing kick, will not dizzy or even hurt anyone very bad.
overall the computer is very cheap, best part of this game by far is playing 2 player.
playing online with lag at both ends isnt so great btw.
overall, unbalanced charachters, annoying control aspects, terrible end boss.
only thing that saves this is 2 player but still it is too unbalanced to be a fair fight most the time.
voices in the game were lame.
positives. well i did like playing ryu, ryu vs. ken, guile is cool. good nostalgia factor. good graphics and contols. music and sound was good in most places. super and ultra combos were fun to do.
