SNES Has A Great Fighter, As Well As The Last...

First off, I want to say that I am so happy that they made this game for SNES. I was very surprised that they did due to the graphics and animation it uses. Because the game uses a lot of after-effect techniques (Like when you do a super movce), I was really curious as to how they would pull it off because of the limitations of CPU speed and lag time the SNES has when the game uses more than 3 moving sprites at a time.

In case you were not aware, they used the SUPER FX chip to make a lot of the animations and sound. That is what partly helped the animations and the effects they used.

Enough about the techie stuff, lets get to the game.

First off, the animation is very sweet, even though it's obvious they are missing a lot of frames of animation, it's still very well done. They did what they could to preserve the Alpha series for the SNES. After seeing what Street Fighter Alpha 2 can be done on SNES, I am very sure that there is almost no limit to what the SNES can do as far as overall power. I was so surprised to see that it was very close to the arcade version. The background stages were great, especially the Stormy Grassy Field. They did a great job with the overall looks of the stages and background animations. The special and super moves looked very well done. I was really impressed when I saw how they did the super move animations.

Control was pretty good, all the moves were there. I didn't have any problems with getting a super move or special moves off. The only thing I did notice was that there was a certain lag time between button pressed to action made. Normally, SNES has no trouble in lag time from other fighting games (Street Fighter II, Killer Instinct, etc.), but this one you could almost tell from just wanting what you did on the controller and waiting to see what the game translates.

The only downside to this game is the load time. I felt like I was playing a CD because it required load time during the transition from "Who's Next" to "Fight Start" and some other similar areas of the game. This was anotehr surprise to me. I would have figured that since it was a CART, there would be very little load (lag) time from screen to screen, but that was not the case here. It was so obvious due to certain areas of the game would halt animations for a split second between transitions from screen to screen. I don't know how you are, but I prefer quick action time. When I play a fighting game, I need to get to the game, not wait an additional few seconds to get started.

Overall, the game is good in graphics and sound, but control and load time will be your only real problem. I don't know what kind of person you are, but if I were you, only get the game if you are a Street Fighter fan, nothing more.
