This is not a revolutionary game but it is a well polished addition to an old one...(((some minor spoilers))

User Rating: 8.5 | Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty PC
Let's get this out of the way first. I enjoyed Starcraft when it came out and I did complete it, but I didn't play Broodwars because I found Command & Conquer 1 much more entertaining. I never understood all the hype around any of Blizzards IP's and I played them all. Diablo was hackn'slash and got boring really fast, Warcraft was better but also was in my opinion, too basic and felt just like Starcraft with elves and such. The best thing about Blizzard to me has always been the cutscenes and their storytelling. I was more of a DeusEx, DungeonKeeper kind of guy and really appreciated a little more challenge. Now before you flame me, realize I do not enjoy or play online games. To me there all the same and it's just not my bag baby.
Starcraft 2 was not really high on my list of really expensive games to spend my meager funds on but I did like what I saw and the cutscenes where impressive. I even went back and replayed Starcraft to see if I was even interested in that kind of game anymore. Needless to say I got the game and was immediately impressed with the quality and presentation. I have now played about 8 hours and have done quite a few missions including (spoiler alert) the protoss ones. The addition of RPG elements and the fleshed out story was impressive and the engine itself was pretty to look at and full of details. I also enjoyed the beefy additions of research and merc's. I find the missions are diverse and the objectives require you stay plan out your production lines and really think about your upgrades.(spoiler alert) I even found myself deep in thought in one of the very pivotal points early in the game regarding saving a colony which doesn't happen very often in any game so kudo's to Blizzard for sucking me into the plot and characters. I like the additional units and they seem to be really balanced. So all in all Blizzard delivered on providing an entertaining product. The ramp up in skills required is evenly done and the story keeps you wanting to play another mission so you can see what's next. I cannot give this a 10 because in my opinion there is nothing new or innovative here rather a slick, high production remake of an good game in which some available ideas where mixed together to produce something fairly entertaining. I hope this review helps those who are on the fence since I already know what the fanboys will think.
