There's enough in this game to really draw you in, but there are quite a number of things that irritate as well.

User Rating: 8.5 | Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic PC
Although not as impressive as Mass Effect or Dragon's Age, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is still a fun BioWare RPG. It's interesting to see the similarities between the games and how a lot of themes and gameplay styles spawned from KOTOR. With that said, Mass Effect and Dragon's Age are immensely better than this game and improve on a lot of the things that KOTOR does wrong, but it still has enough elements to really make you want to keep playing.

Gameplay: 3.5/5
+ I wasn't entirely sold on the combat system in the game. It's somewhat turn-based and somewhat real-time. The most annoying part of this is how there is often a few seconds delay between actions, which wouldn't be so bad but it makes lulls in the combat that really drag down the action. Also, the interface is very clunky and you have to scroll through three lists for either your normal attacks, force powers, or grenades. Plus the fact that you have to hold down right click in order to use the on-screen cursor makes things very cumbersome and awkward. I suppose this is one generic fault of early games in the 2000s, but it's still painful to try and battle with the UI. Also, there are plenty of bugs--an especially irritating one is when your character freezes after combat has ended and you won't be able to move him anywhere. Still, the game can hook you in once you get the hang of it. It starts off slow but as you get more powerful and more actions open up things begin to grow more fun. By the end of the game when almost all of your power is unlocked it's hard not to enjoy unleashing Force attacks on everyone.

Story/Presentation: 4.5/5
+ The main plot twist was what really sold this game for me. I wasn't expecting it, and after I realized what was happening it all clicked. Sure, there are some cliches here and there, and the story does resemble Mass Effect's main plot to a certain extent. The different characters in your party have the cookie-cutter personalities that can be found in other BioWare games. But the Star Wars universe has it's own lore that flushes out KOTOR, which really helps give more meaning to the game. It has its highs and lows, but overall it manages to be fairly immersive for a 7 year old game.

Graphics: 4/5
+ I suppose the graphics were decent back when this was first released. I'm not saying they are awful now, but naturally the graphics are no longer that spectacular. They are still advanced enough where you can believe you're walking around on a planet. Plus, each planet you travel to has a very special and distinct art style which really makes each mission seem unique. Again, it has a lot of Star Wars and Lucasarts data to borrow from, but in this case it's a good thing.

Value: 4.5/5
+ One thing you can always guarantee with BioWare is that you can get good value out of a game. If you play through at a moderate pace and take the time to explore here and there you will probably beat the game in 20-25 hours. But the thing is, there are choices and branches that you make in the game that will determine certain outcomes. Therefore, there's a strong encouragement to play this game again and experiment with a new character. With over 20 hours in one playthrough, and the open option of another run-through this game is definitely worth the low price tag it now retails at.
