Did you ever hear of the tragedy of Star Wars Battlefront II?

This could have gone down as one of the best Star Wars games ever made, if the Celebration Edition that is available today is the standard game that was released 6 years ago.

The story campaigns are decent. The main story is set after Return of the Jedi and revolves around Inferno Squad, an imperial special forces unit. Then the story continues in the "Resurrection" campaign that's set during the Force Awakens. It's a basic cookie-cutter plot with familiar beats and tropes we have seen before in Star Wars. But I liked the dynamic between the three members of the Inferno Squad and how their story concludes. In certain missions, we meet and even play as the main heroes of the original trilogy. It's great to see what the old gang was doing after the movies.

Apart from the campaigns, there are also other single-player modes such as Battle Scenarios, Instant Action and Custom Arcade modes, in which you play against AI opponents.

The co-op and multiplayer game modes are really fun, my personal favourite is Heroes vs Villains. The biggest issue is that the current player count is so low now, you may have to wait a while before there are enough people to start a match.

The progression system is a lot more streamlined than it used to be. Play a certain class or a hero, you will gain skill points which you can use to unlock star cards. Each of these cards will grant you different perks. Complete certain milestones and you unlock new weapons. Easy as that. No loot boxes, and no microtransactions. Different unique skins and emotes are available right from the beginning if you have purchased the Celebration Edition; no need to grind the game for credits.

It's unfortunate that it took EA so long to fine-tune this game. I don't think it ever recovered from the bad rep it initially had. Even more disappointing that they stopped adding more content right after. I recommend buying this for a discount; to enjoy the story campaign and to play multiplayer while there's still a decent number of active players.
