This game is OK, but I never really got into the overhead shooters.

User Rating: 5.5 | Star Soldier NES
Star Soldier is pretty good for an overhead shooter, but I don't really get it. I cant seem to figure out how you go over some things, but under others; and why you go all the way back to the beginning when you die. I know that you're dead, but come on. I didn't get that far for nothing. I hate that kind of crap.
While I never really got into these overhead shooters, I have enough of them. This one is pretty good by comparison, but not my cup of tea. All you do is fly a space ship and mash the same button constantly while trying to avoid things with the d-pad. What fun. And once you've memorized the patterns, it's easy to play.
I have a few controllers with turbo, and that's really what you need. I used it to play Life Force, which is not all that great either, and it works very well. Again, I have to say I don't like games like this. I don't see the point of a game that requires a special controller that allows you to hold a button to beat it. Where is the challenge? Where does skill come into play? Dodging this crap is pretty easy if you blow it all up!
In all, if you like overhead space themed shooters, you'll like this one. There are some interesting things thrown in, but not enough worth my time. I'll recommend it to people who like this kind of crap, but it's definitely not for everybody.
