I'd give this game a higher rating if the developers had toned down the difficulty a little...or a lot.

User Rating: 6.5 | Star Fox SNES
This is the freaking hardest video game I have ever played in my life. That is a one-sentence summary of my review. StarFox is basically a first-person spaceship shooter game, almost like one of the older arcade games. You go through three different levels, each made up or 6 or 7 stages taking place above planets' surfaces or in outer space, until you reach Venom, the last planet, and there you try to defeat Andross, the primary villain of the story. Sounds cool, huh? Well, I'm certainly not denying that part…the backgrounds for most of the stages are awesome, and while the 3-D graphics of the game might be a bit lacking, this game was, after all, made in 1993. Just flying through some of the environments, each with their own respective bad guys, is cool. The thing that really hits this game with a knockout punch, though, is the difficulty level. You start the game with only three lives, although you can get continues. However, it is very difficult to get more lives, and you will have plenty of opportunities to lose them. You can't save in this game, either; if you lose all your continues, you start from the very beginning. This really sucks if, for example, you were on stage 6 and were all ready to fight Andross, or if you are facing the dreaded boss of Sector Y. If you are used to platformers like I am, this game will be even harder for you. My brother has been playing this game for several years now, and he only ever got farther than stage 4 on level 2 once. At this rate, it will be 2019 before he gets past the entire game. If this were any other video game, either he or I would have beaten it long ago. StarFox is a cool video game and quite impressive for its time; it just needs to be about twelve notches less difficult.
