User Rating: 9.3 | SSX 3 PS2
I am a dyed-in-the-wool PC gamer, but I admit to having a PS2 just to make sure Im not missing anything. So far, I havent been - until SSX3 (this is my first ssx game). This game is the most professionally produced game I have ever played. The graphics, design, sound, gameplay, and overall environment are exceptionally designed and integrated into a singular, ultra stylistic universe. There is no learning curve per se to this game because it is fun the very first time you go down the slope, yet never gets old because there is so much more to learn and master. The sense of speed is perhaps the greatest of any racing game I have played. I am constantly amazed at how much of a course I can actually play on without being out of bounds. I do have a couple of gripes, the first is not SSX-specific, but applies more to console games. Games like SSX and Gran Turismo extend their playing life by forcing you to engage in a campaign to use all the tracks. I am not too big on this. If I bought the game, I want access to all the tracks. I work 40 hours a week and really dont have the time to be deciding whether I need a new suspension or brakes in order to win my 12th try at a race I need to win to unlock a track. I like that that campaign mode exists, but I want to be able to override it. Another is the navigation of the campaign mode - as some others have mentioned, it can be pretty confusing. Its hard to get a top-down view of whats going on. Along with Simpsons Hit and Run, I have finally bought some PS2 games that I feel are not only worthy, but among the best-produced games I have played. Bravo.
