A faithful, digitized port of the original arcade classic.

If you're a fan of the original, seeking out this version for the Jaguar, and possibly seeking out a Jaguar, might be worth your consideration [see also the similar (and good!) Dragon's Lair for the Jaguar CD].

The game's graphics are ported-over from the upright arcade unit, however they're now "digitized" and bit-mapped instead of the actual celluloid cartoon drawings. The result is effective, just imagine the original game now with jaggies and you'll get the idea.

The sound, voices and effects are ported over intact but also suffer from the digitization [compression?] that the graphics suffered, but the fact that the original tracks are here at all is appreciated.

The controls are straight-forward as always - wait for the indicator to flash the direction you need to go, and then hit it. Up, down, left or right and the action button is all you need. Even though you only have this limited amount of input, you will find that the controls are inexplicably squirrelly at times, and no matter how many times you replay the same scene again & again [which you will], you'll have a near-impossible time of nailing the control or button in the 1/1,000,000th of a second that the game is allowing for you to do so.

Also, the scenes don't seem to play out in the same order that I recall from the arcade version, which isn't a deal-breaker, rather it's just odd. Touching again on the controls, which have always required a great deal of timing & precision, the timing is now off compared to the arcade unit so that is another adjustment for you if you're revisiting this title. If you're new to it, then it's no problem at all.

This same review can be applied to Dragon's Lair for the Jaguar CD.
