Different characters have different stories but to tell you the truth, when it comes to fighting game, plot isn't a big issue.

Soul Calibur IV visuals are very impressive both with the overall 3D models and structures, and the special effects. Background effects are great with excellent texture details both on the background and the characters themselves.

The game-play is good but can be a bit of a challenge at first play if your not used to the Soul Calibur mechanics. Once you are comfortable with the controls the game-play is solid. There are a mixed variety of playable character as well as Darth Vader himself and his apprentice from the "Star Wars: The Force Unlashed" game. On the 360 version you can play as Yoda, which you can buy him as a downloadable content for the PS3 version, as well as Darth Vader for the 360. Each character has there own fighting style and techniques, as you would expect. By pressing a certain button you can perform horizontal and vertical strikes, kicks and guard yourself from attacks. By pressing multiple buttons simultaneously you can perform special moves and combos, which are quite satisfying. You can customize your own character in lots of different ways, which is very cool and very satisfying. Take you customized characters and fight against the computer in arcade and even story mode or, take your characters online and show them of against your friends or strangers. There are a variety of game modes, as previously mentioned above you have Story mode (naturally), Tower of Lost Souls, which consists of six floors where the player can either Ascend of Descend. Choose to Ascend and you can capture the tower by defeating the boss. Choose Descend and see just how many enemies you can defeat. You have Arcade mode, Training mode, Versus mode and online mode where you can choose to fight against friend or strangers.

The sound effects focus more on old style beat-em up games from back in the day, which is quite good.

The story mode is pretty short but there is plenty of replay value. You can play the Arcade mode, which is awesome, plus other in game mode or you can take the fight online, which can be fun, especially with friends and can be quite addictive.

Overall Soul Calibur IV is a very good, fun fighting game and is worth the play, but not so much on your own, and can loose its momentum after a while. Soul Calibur IV is definitely better when played with friend ether in the same room or online. The graphics are great and customizing your own character is rather cool, fun and can be quite satisfying. As awesome as it is playing as Darth Vader, or even Yoda, sadly the great power of the dark side and the force combined, is not great enough to make Soul Calibur IV, a truly worthy adversary to other fighting game out there.
