Good game, and would've been great if it wasn't so short.

User Rating: 7.6 | Soul Reaver 2 PS2
Soul Reaver 2 has great graphics. Although the lighting is dark most of the time, the feel the game creates fits the tone of the game, and the movement between the spirit and the corporeal worlds are fantastic. The storyline, branching off from the original Soul Reaver (which, as of this review, I have not played), is engaging, albeit somewhat confusing. The puzzles are somewhat difficult and can take a while to solve, and the enemies, while never extremely difficult, can give you a challenge if you let your guard down.

However, the main complaint that I have with Soul Reaver 2 is it's length. The game is just too damn short! I beat it in probably 12-15 hours, and that's the conservative estimate. The game starts moving along at a good space, and the story is starting to unfold, when suddenly it ends. The abruptness with which the game actually ends caught me completely off guard...I sat staring at my screen wondering "Is that it? It surely can't be over, I haven't been playing for that long!" But alas, it was over. Not only that, but during the "final boss fight" (if it can even be called that), you're invincible...you can't lose the final battle. While I understand the move from a plot perspective (and I don't want to give away too much), from a gameplay perspective it just seemed extremely cheap.

The game probably deserves a better rating than I gave it, and it really is a fun game while you're playing it. And it's not the difficult puzzles that I have a major problem with...yeah, some of them seemed annoyingly tough, but that can be overlooked. I just can't give a game that ends so suddenly a high score, however.
