Not as good as the original, but then again, you knew that already.

User Rating: 4.9 | Soul Reaver 2 PS2
Soul Reaver 2 is the sequel to the largely outstanding Soul Reaver. This story takes place right where the prequel leaves off. Gamers will assume the role of Raziel, fallen vampire and former Sarafan Knight as he chases Kain all over Nosgoth. Now the game is set in the past, so the landscape of Nosgoth looks remarkably different from SR1. This is both a good and a bad thing. SR1 has a sense of length and in some instances it is non linear. SR2 is linear to a fault and entirely too short. The story line is more convoluted that the previous titles and that includes the original game in this whacked out series, Blood Omen Legacy of Kain. Raziel becomes an adversary to the preternatural god that resurrected him, and Crystal Dynamics does not do a good job of explaining why. There are way too many cut scenes that do not add to the storyline in any meaningful way. In fact, they simply raise more questions.

The gameplay is slightly different from the first game, but largely the same. There are more enemies in the game and now Raziel can summon his wraith blade at will. However, none of this does anything to save this doomed series from the abyss of inconsistencies, discontinuity, and convolution. Rent it first.
