I go back to the beginning of one of gamings legends. A review of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

"Blue Hedgehogs, Flicky's, Evil Doctor's based off of Roosevelt ah Sonic the Hedgehog! Now I owned Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles and I loved them! I loved my Sonic collection. But I never owned nor had I played until recently the original Sonic the Hedgehog, And I just gotta say: Ya gotta love the originals.
Released back in 1991 very close to my birthday actually, Sonic the Hedgehog was SEGA's answer to Nintendo's Mario and he actually got attention. How couldn't he? Back in the day Sonic was a total badass, he was way cooler than Mario.
Sonic brought a new taste to the side scrolling game market. Sonic's incredible speed brought something to his game and to fans that Mario would never, and has never been able to touch. Faster than Mario, More Colorful than Mario, and bringing so much more personality than Mario was definitely what SEGA was shooting for and they succeeded tremendously with Sonic.
The gameplay in Sonic is pretty simple, yet can get quite difficult at times, actually causing me to scream in frustration on the later ones. Sonic's sense of speed however was one of the games best selling points however, and the boss fights against the evil Dr. Robotnik were always fun and one or two occasions even nail biting.
Now since I played Sonic 2 first I did miss having Tails following me around, but I can't fault a game for not having what its sequel did. The audio in the game is also wonderful everybody remembers the classic Green Hill Zone tune or the sound of Sonic losing all of his rings, (that last one makes me cry everytime I hear it!)
In conclusion Sonic the Hedgehog was incredible back in its day, and while future Sonic games would improve on the formula presented here, as I said at the beginning of this review: Ya gotta love the originals, and ya gotta love Sonic the Hedgehog.
