Better than the first Sonic Riders.

User Rating: 8 | Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity PS2
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is the sequel to the first Sonic Riders. Zero Gravity brings many additions to the hover board racing. In this new game, you can control gravity, change your gear, and you don't have to collect points to stay on your board.

The main problem with the game is its story. This has a rather uninventive storyline, and it's very similar to the previous game in a way. It's about the characters grabbing a hold of these rings, which allows them to control gravity. Soon after, they find out that it's Dr Eggman (No Surprise) is up to something. So, it has a totally horrible storyline. The thing is that this story never grabs a hold of you. You really don't care what happens.
In terms of the characters, we get the old gang back for a second running. Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy are back, along with the Babylon Rogues - Jet,Wave, and Storm - who return to solve a mystery about their ancestors. Unlockable characters include Shadow, Rouge, and Silver.

The racing itself has the same style as the first game. You can do stunts during jumps, boost, and grind, but the new additions to the racing are fantastic. The problem I had with the previous game was with the way you could race on your board. You had to gain energy for your board to stay on it, and it was a real slog to do so. This time, you stay on your board for the whole race, but you can gain Gravity Points by doing jumps. Gravity Points allow you to boost and drift. You collect rings to activate a gear change. Gear changes allows your board to gain certain modes during the race. You can change your board into a hover bike to smash obstacles out of your way, or you can gear change to a hover craft which can be used to fly.

The racing courses you have here are really cool. All the racing tracks look fantastic, and they're so imaginative. The designers did a really good job with the graphics, because the game looks great. There are so many vibrant colours, and the detail with the tracks and boards really shines. It has that classic Sonic video game look throughout the game as well, and the controls are really smooth.

It'll take some getting used to because the new players of the game with have A LOT of difficulty with the gameplay. But once you get a hng of it, the game is so fun. The story may be weak, but the fast paced action make this a classic Sonic game. I can say that Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is ten times better than the previous Sonic Riders.
